rumor: Virtua Fighter 5 - Xenon launch game

yet, it didn't take THAT long for Virtua Fighter 2 to migrate from arcades to Saturn
(even though the Saturn version was much weaker)

regarding VF2, wasn't it at least a year? iirc it was 1994 or 1995 for the arcade release, and at least 1996 when the saturn port was released. wile i won't argue that the arcade version is better than the saturn port, there were some enhancements to the saturn version that made it stand up to the arcade in many repects. the game ran at twice the resolution and twice the frame rate on the saturn, for example.

Arcades aren't what they once were... same goes for sega.

I was gonna say something along those lines...... Sega would might bring out VF5 in arcades first, but only give it 6-9 months in arcades before a console version.

There's more money to be made by making it console only, or first if you ask me. The Arcade biz (even in japan) isn't as big as it was 12 years ago.

Bringing a game to the arcade first doesn't necessarily diminish the anticipation of a home release. Sometimes, it increases it.

The arcade industry might not be as large as it once was, but Sega Sammy's share of it has grown proportionately to the industry's shrinkage, allowing them to profit from it as much as they ever have. And Virtua Fighter is one of their most lucrative arcade properties.

if vf5 is ready for the end of the year or sooner for the arcades they will release it , rake in the money then release it at home and lower the price of it in the arcades But it being in the arcades will get it more press time

The SEGA-Sammy philosophy might be different from the old SEGA one. I have to say I think the rumor is more likely true then not. Launch titles tend to perform well sales wise. Virtua Fighter is a strong brand name and with online play, the game could be in high demand long after the intial launch, if it has deep gameplay.

In Japan, VF is still popular. Competition is still good in major arcades. The thing is VF5 isn't even officially shown yet. With Final Tuned on its last stretch, I am really hoping they show something official soon.

Its plausible, they're able to port it quickly. But their record of porting VF to new machine isn't very good. Especially if the new board is being alot more powerful than what Xenon is. If indeed VF5 is using their high end board, that's a probability too.

A port of Final Tuned is probably more likely. Then they will release VF5 port, before the next major arcade revision of VF5. They need to milk this brand for all its worth anyway. :p

Highly doubtful.

This is AM2, not Namco, The first 3 of VF ports were bare. Even if they could do it perfectly, they'll probably find a way to botch it, somehow. :( Especially if Xenon port required online play and the arcade doesn't.

Oh and speaking of VF...

Just happened - look at the date. In short, VF is an arcade treasure for Sega-Sammy. Regular competitions and tournaments, fully nation-wide networked ranking and tracking system. A new VF will be arcade-land property for a long time.

Well if anyone is interested, here is the video of the final round of that tourney.

Or maybe the next-gen arcade board is X-Box 360 based?

That's possible too, considering how much AM2 loves Chihiro board. They basically dumb N2 for it. Its just that VF5 been in development for awhile already.
