Rise of the Tomb Raider [XO, XOX, X360, PS4, P4Pro]

"You bastard!" o_O

I only just started the game, but yeah. Not a fan of the dialogue/acting. She seems a bit whiny or maybe the voice just irritates me. I still prefer Underworld.

I think they upped AF only because they were worried people might notice how low it is when playing on 4K, not because they couldn't do it on PS4 ... :p

I agree about the delivery being pants in comparison. That it's trying just as much on the other hand is simply not true. Uncharted hasn't just long stretches of chapters dedicated to nothing but storytelling, it has chapters in their entirety doing nothing but that. TR on the other hand has probably 20 minutes of cutscenes in total.
BOught it from the steam in the current sale. Ready to go "gaming" soon :D

I am also very disappointed with the game's graphics. It is a performance pusher for the 360 but not at all on current gen consoles. It looks nice but so far nothing has impressed me technically.
Character models look also kinda old-gen'ish.

Just wondering. Am I the only one annoyed extremely with the acting and dialogue in this game?

The story and writing is laughable all around. The first game is better than RotTR on both fronts. One thing that really annoyed me was that the clumsy animation from the first game (that was supposed to show how inexperienced Lara was) was left unchanged. It gives the feeling that Lara still doesn't know how to do shit with precision and style. And in general she comes off as a whiny psycho instead of the badass Lara is supposed to be. Still, exploration is quite nice and the bow gameplay is really refined as well. Overall i liked the first one better, and i prefer the previous Tomb Raider games a lot more (exploration/puzzle solving heavy).

I'm actually quite liking the characterisation, The story isn't anything spectacular (yet - I'm quite early in the game I think) but it's enough to keep me interested.

I actually think RotTR started ok but went downhill quite fast (after the Soviet camp). I think the best location in the whole game is actually Syria, less action heavy, a good set piece and a decent amount of exploration, not to mention it's the best looking area in the whole game.

I'm at the Soviet camp atm so I'll find out soon enough!

Just finished the game on the PC.

I think it's generally a better game than the first. Its a lot less Unchartedly, meaning there's a lot less Rambo-ing which was replaced with Tomb Raiding. It's good that Crystal Dynamics has made its own thing, especially given the fact that the number of enemies was very scarce in the original games.

My only disappointment with this game is that it's 99% set in Siberia, so the landscape and general tone mapping doesn't vary a lot. This is a place where the Uncharted series and even some of the older titles excel.
Here's hoping the next title (Shadow of the Tomb Raider?) is also set in a warm paradisiacal place and not only cold places. Plus, it doesn't make much sense to see Lara effortlessly jumping in and out of the water nothing in places with below-zero temperatures, where anyone would suffer from hypothermia within seconds.

I hope the next game [which is presumably being worked by Eidos Montreal not Crystal Dynamics] will have better characters, story and stakes. That's the biggest complaint I have of new TR franchise.

Played this on PC, and enjoyed the Syria bit, but as soon as I came to the snowy parts my interest started dropping fast. Maybe I'll go back to it eventually.

I hope they'll relegate the narrative to where it used to be in TR games: far, far in the background. I also hope they'll continue what they started and focus more and more on meaningful exploration (i.e. not collecting a bajillion doodads in semi open world maps largely segregated from the actual meat of the game) and intricate puzzles. Basically I'd like a TR Underworld with the combat and polish of the last two games. Rise was on the right track at least. Maybe they'll let their B-team in Canada experiment a little more.

I am still at the Soviet camp and yes, it aint no Uncharted in storytelling or characters, but its a good exploratory game till now. And love it that the exploration is rewarding and well in context within the world. Feels rewarding and worth it instead of just being about chatting with ppl in UC4.
there seems to be a lot more to the game this time, a guy was even giving side quests and all.
