Rise of the Tomb Raider [XO, XOX, X360, PS4, P4Pro]

This is good for me, the remainder of this year is looking like gaming overload for me.

Until Dawn and Dishonoured Definitive Edition are out next month, MGS V and Tearaway are out in September, the Uncharted Collection is out in October and Halo 5 and Fallout 4 are out in November. And these are the games I'm really keen on, there's plenty of other games that may suck me in once coverage and reviews are out. This is literally more gaming than I have time for and I still have a ton of things to mop up in Witcher 3 and I'm only about halfway through Arkham Knight! :runaway:

PS4 sales will be interesting to see [heck even Xbone version launching on the same day as F4]. IMO, they should have put PS4 version in the summer [simmilar slot like Arkham Knight].

I am curious to see how the PC version turns out, the TR 2013 port is still one of the best ports done on PC, and it scales evenly up to 4x SLI/Crossfire.

Nixxes does not mess around with their PC ports. :) They know that if they spend a bit of time satisfying the high-end segment of the "master race", word of mouth for their games will forever remain strong.

edit - Although technically, they have not yet confirmed they will work on PC port of this game. But that is almost guaranteed. They will work on DE:MD and will add DX12 renderer for it.

X1 sales of the Definitive Edition weren't too hot iirc. This time they'll probably have a marketing push by MS so things may be better, i certainly hope so (tight release window though, between Halo 5 and Fallout 4 and close to another CoD and Battlefront, i can see regular X1 users skipping TR for any of the aforementioned games). I am still going to wait for the PC version though. Seeing how it's squenix TR will probably cost around 5 $ on PC/Steam by the time the Ps4 version is released :D

I think it's funny that CD evaded the question for so long though. At this point the official facebook page of Tomb Raider can be summarized like this: "I will buy it when it's on Ps4/Shame on you for ruining the franchise". Some people just have too much free time/are too dedicated :D

Knowing [this desperate] Microsoft, I can easily see them bundling this new TR with every new console during holidays in the US.

That won't be a bad thing necessarily. I certainly expect this Tomb Raider to be better, or at least more polished, than most annually released titles like Assassin's Creed/Cod etc. In fact, i would hope MS to bundle TR with X1 these holidays. Judging by the last TR this will most probably be a good game :D

One year exclusive? Was expecting it to be 6 months or so.
If it's good, I'll wait until it hits the bargain bin. Unless they give us enough content to justify the wait, and/or price it accordingly. I'm not gonna pay full price for a 1 year old game. I don't care how good it is.

Any one from Crystal dynamic, can tell us if tthe PC version could have increased features ( better Tress beard ( TressFX ),? snow ( hello Pixar Bullet )

i think the demo we have seen are reallly impressive, even from pc standard this put the bar really high.. but anyway with more compute power.. we could attain an everest peak, instead of just the K1 ..

One year late, combined with fan anger, might hurt sales more than the amount of "commitment" they received from MS. The media hype will have died down and gamers will consider it an old title. I don't think Sony will provide any marketing help. Also, 2016 is overloaded with PS4 exclusives, it's a really crowded release window.

Maybe if they give a kick ass free DLC...

It'll be a wash. Look at Destiny for instance, players had content withheld from them for 1 year, for the original game, the next 2 expansions, and now the Taken King - yet they paid exactly the same price as PS4 users. And Destiny is still holding strong on Xbox.
Mass Effect was never to come to PS4 and when it did it was done with open arms.
And Titanfall received similar rage, yet PS4 owners are going to embrace TF2 with open arms.
Fan anger - is more like a group of internet individuals who may or may not have multiple accounts on multiple sites and/or forums.
There are other ways to look at the agreement between ROTR and MS. One is to look at the developer POV.

Exclusives are great for developers because it really allows them to focus on a single platform and design the game around that. CD got what they wanted, an exclusive that could be later ported out to other platforms for the chance to make additional money. So not only do they benefit from the resources and marketing power of MS (and say the game turns out to be a block buster 10/10) by 2016 I don't see 'fan anger' being the reason a possible reason why PC and PS4 players won't also snatch it up. How many Xbox One owners would buy SFV a year after release on PS4 if they had their chance to? Think about it.

Exclusive DLC that was meh in Destiny, cannot be compared. Some of the crucible maps are ok, and some of the weapons are decent, but the strikes were forgettable, and the large majority of the core game was available to XB owners. Plus the game is a shooter and is made by arguably the most popular devs amongst XB fans... it was almost certain that it would sell well on XB.

This will most definitely hurt PS4 sales (and sales overall IMO) no matter what they do. I have a feeling that they're going to sell it for a lowered price on PS4 with any DLC included. But even then it won't sell as much as it could have.

The release date on XB1 is also a bad one too... it's releasing alongside other big titles like Fallout.

If it came out a year later? A lot less. Just look at BioShock or Mass Effect last gen. Not only did the late ports sell significantly worse, sequels also sold relatively worse on PS3.

The playstation crowd is notoriously stubborn. The fans disappointment was expected by CD and was factored into the business decision. So maybe the "vocal minority with multiple accounts on the internet" argument is correct this time, but history shows this argument is often wishful thinking.

A lot of gamers started expressing their opinion against timed-exclusivity. Their ultimate goal would be to impact the market enough to make these deals unprofitable. It never works because gamers want to play the game, and boycotts are totally stupid in this regard. The situation with TR is different because the effort is minimal. Considering it'll be available used a few weeks after release. There's little difference between waiting a year anyway, or waiting a year plus a few weeks to get it used. If I was an activist, I'd say it's the correct strategy for little effort.
