Rift, Vive, and Virtual Reality

Hmmm. Don't tempt me.
But to buy it, it would have to be at least two Times more powerful than the Quest 2.
But something tells me it's more geared towards enterprises and workspaces.

Free on Steam

Why Have I posted this here ?
The VR version of Dagon will be made available in October as a free update

The VR version is out now. I tried it. It's a short, simple, but entertaining little narrated Lovecraft story. You can't even walk around though. It's a "click on highlighted point of interest" sort of thing. But free!!!

Here's something interesting I noticed on Steam when I looked at the Steam survey yesterday. Over 60% of VR headsets connected to systems with Steam installed use Oculus headsets. Over 33% of all VR headsets in Steam systems are Quest 2 headsets. The Valve Index and Oculus Rift S are in a battle for 2nd with a bit over 17% each.

But VR owners are still less than 2% of Steam's install base.

Modified OpenVR DLL with AMD FidelityFX SuperResolution Upscaler
https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr
Download page (but read the above page)
https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr/releases/tag/fsr_v1.1
This modified openvr_api.dll allows you to apply FidelityFX SuperResolution upscaling to many SteamVR games, as long as they use D3D11.

Known issues
Half Life: Alyx and Star Wars: Squadrons do not work, because they don't like you replacing their openvr_dll.api.

I remembered you posted this and thought it might be interesting to see if its sharpening effect might be useful for the soft image of the Samsung Odyssey+. Well, I think it might add a little bit of clarity but it's minimal and it increases aliasing too.

I also tried it with the Reverb which is probably a more appropriate scenario because the 1080 Ti can barely handle the Reverb's resolution in some games. I suppose it looks better than regular undersampling in the menu, but I think it's rather subjective. Instead of some blur you get a edge enhanced, more contrasty image with more aliasing and some blur. It's an interesting look and of course it runs better because it upscales from 77% native resolution by default. But eh I'm not sure about it. I just need to win a 3090 in some contest or something.

Free game posted because it showed up on my steam home page short but gets good reviews
I tried it. It looks great but you are stationary. So it's a panicky shooting gallery with the horror of not being able to reposition yourself at all. You are a human turret mostly alone in the dark. :)

I was looking for a FOV comparison and came across this video. Lots of HMDs tested. 170 degree horizontal FOV on the StarVR One!? That must be amazing.

That seems like a good channel, it's interesting to see how far things have progressed from my CV1. The G2 in particular looks great. I'll still hold out for one of the next gen headsets next year but in combo with a 4xxx series GPU (assuming they're affordable) I should be in for at least a generational upgrade if not more even with my existing games.

The G2 has a super clear image but the FOV is noticeably lower than the Odyssey+ and the controllers suck. The controllers have a new control scheme that tries to emulate Oculus but ends up just breaking compatibility with many games because it's not normal WMR. I am using the stock WMR controllers from the Reverb 1 with the G2. The G2 is a very minimal improvement over the original Reverb in practice. Like maybe the motion control is slightly better because of more cameras but it is still quite glitchy and tends to lose track of motionless hands.

VR needs new games and more FOV. And yeah my 1080 Ti is barely adequate. Though I'm not sure about the future of the PC GPU situation.

I believe you can use the G2 with lighthouses and the index controllers

Interesting. But really WMR is good enough for me. It's just that the G2 is less of an improvement over regular 2 camera WMR than people might think.

And I see people complaining about game compatibility problems with Index controllers too. Control issues are the quiet little problem of SteamVR gaming. It's sometimes possible to remap but that Steam controller panel is very complicated.

btw any game for PCVR akin to summer lesson PSVR? or more visual-novel-like (but not a pure visual novel like tokyo chronos) like Tales of Wedding Rings VR (on oculus and steam)? It was ridiculously short (and hella expensive) but a really amazing experience. the presentation, the story, the music, everything was top-notch.

On PCVR, There's "focus on you", but it has ridiculously low interactivity, and it was super boring and the game design makes it super jarring (it felt like the game was made to be played with a controller or a mouse, and then mid-development changed to VR). There's also vr kanojo. but the story is practically just an excuse for the porn (and it keeps becoming steam vr top seller games every time there's a sale, but no one cloned it yet to a more story-driven direction). then there's virt a mate, that supposed to have "scenarios" made by people. but it was full of porn scenarios. no scenarios with proper story in sight, and its UX was super hard to understand.

There are 2 yuru camps vr experience on steam. But I'm not sure what it is about (just enjoying the nature?) and how the gameplay is. too afraid to buy due to the even more ridiculous pricing.

Half Life Alyx is on sale again -50% £23.24 if anyone's been waiting
Skyrim VR -67% £13.99 for those that baulked at paying £39.99
Asseto Corsa is £3.09

Alyx is a must have. Even for a scared cat like me. Sure I'm unable to finish it, it's too scary, but it was a really really good immersive experience.

Into the Radius needs some hawking. 30% off. Cheaper than that boring ultra linear comedic relief brand name Alyx game. Incredibly immersive for people who like exploration and mystery in a Stalker like setting. With optional survival mechanics. VR fully utilized. Dedicated development team.

;)
