report from event

$500 is still hella expensive for a card for some of us! ;)

Thanks again DemoCoder for the excellent event coverage and goodies, it was faboo! Thanks to everyone for the mirrors and contributions to the thread, it was a great way to wake up and get right back into the swing of things.

Now that I got me appetite all wetted, I'm gonna go read me a few of those reviews. 8)

Sounds like the 6800U is delivering on a lot of nVidia's promises, this is going to be a fun match-up! :D

It looks like the NV40 is nVidia's first really good card in over a year! I'm not through with the B3D review yet, but it seems the only thing wrong with it is the massive power requierments, along with the heat that goes with said power requierments.

Edit:

It seems if you get this error, you've posted. ;)

You can of course by the Non Ultra if that is a problem.

You are correct there. It really looks like nVidia has hit one out of the ballpark, so to speak. I hope they aren't cheating though...

My beef is heat and power requirements. My other beef is "Is this a benchmark card?" Will this card be available in a quantity that is sufficient enough to drive the price down? 1/2 a Grand is out of the price range of 99.5% of the potential customers.

True and fair points, but lets let nVidia have their day in the sun without badgering 'em...they've kind of earned it with this card.

All 'beefs' with the card aside, you must admit that it is delivering on a lot of nVidia's promises...even I'm impressed. :)

DW you show that you are more a fan of technology than any IHV by your post :) That is good btw.

I would buy one even for the ridiculous price, but I will of course wait to see what else occurs in the next 3 months. In any case though there are many things to be impressed by.

HOLY COW just think mainstream cards with 12 pipes from both nv/ati geez that is awesome...

Heat? There are no massive heat problems with this card... reviews say it's cooler than even the 5950 is.

the power reqs dont seem that bad for a next gen card do they? its only 24 watts draw over the 5950. seems reasonable to me.

I've been saying that for a while now, glad to hear you think so too. :)

Hey, I would love to have one of these babies to play with...it really seems like a hotrod of a viddy card to me right now, and a nice one at that!

But I ain't going to be plunking any money down for one until I see what my choices are, and I'm not going to call it an "out of the park hit" for nVidia yet since I still got some reservations about if they're actually going to be able to deliver 'em anywhere near ontime or in quantity, but those things I'll worry about another day.

Today I'm just like a kid waking up on x-mas morning to find a bunch of shiny-happies underneath the x-mas tree and I just plan to enjoy the moment reading and digesting all the info out there. :)

I guess I feel like I'm window shopping. :? I must have been priced out of the "enthusiast" segment without knowing it. :(

from tomshardware and techreports' data on power consumption, it seems 6800U need only a little more power than 5950u and 9800xt.
why not a 1 molex version for 6800u??

Maybe they're just playing it safe :?

A little more can be too much :)
