Rendering in HD resolutions - worth it?

Forcing developers to render in HD resolution is a good thing!

That's a picture of the scaler? Very interesting to see that it has PC resolutions along with TV resolutions, looks like I didn't need to buy my NextVision after all.

I'm assuming at 1280x1024 the image would be bordered and not stretched to fit?

As was said earlier, when you use the VGA cable, you get all those PC resolutions.
When plugging the component cable, you can choose between normal "video" resolutions such as 480p/720p etc

Well if I ever get a 360 I'd hope I could choose 1360x768 on component, as both my screens are that resolution natively (give or take 6 pixels).

For that matter, so is the one you've bought l-b :)

My VGA ports are already in use so I'd want to use component (plus that's the cable it comes with...)

Well the one i'm STILL WAITING FOR has a VGA port i won't use for anything, so i guess that's the one i'll use. If it gives 1:1 pixel mapping, that's the best news i heard about these new consoles in a long time...

You should get 1:1 mapping on that monitor with VGA, with 3 columns of pixels either side of the screen not used. I run that res on VGA on the 26" variant, driven from a PC.

What the X360 will do with the rendering I don't know - presumably it'll scale the picture to match, but maybe if you're lucky some games will support it directly. Either way you should get a very nice crisp picture.

So... people critique MS for months about the HD thing, many claiming it's better for developers to decide. Then when this happens, people say MS is full of it? What a strange way to reward companies for doing what you wanted them to do.
