Has anyone else noticed a startling increase in OpenGL driver performance on the Radeon recently?
I've not been using it for a little while due to the various reviews however I plugged it back in recently to do some performance numbers against the Wildcat and there is a shocking increase in performance in RtCW from the review I run only a couple of months ago - we're looking at +20FPS in 1600x1200, which is a pretty good increase by any means. It would certianly seem that the texture thrashing bug was quite an issue because there seemed to be no hard-disk accessing at all with these drivers unlike the ones used for the Radeon 8500 review. It seems that ATI are doing some pretty good work in this area recently.
However, they have more work to do if Radeon were to be used in a professional environment - I'm currently running SPECviewperf 7.0 on it and its now on it 4'th hour of rendering one of the demos, and its only 56 frames in! Still, at least its not just completely failing.
