This is a pretty simple question. Wasnt sure exactly where to ask the question. Has it moved up to 4096x4096 yet?

Chris

Sent you a PM demi. Sorry for bothering the boards everyone.

While I understand that keeping ahead of software is a good thing so supported sizes should continually increase I wonder if anyone will actually use textures close to that size. Maybe in offline rendering or demos, but I'm not sure any games would have a need for textures even 2k x 2k. Anyone know otherwise?

full screen super-sampling not limited to 1024*768
I assume you're refering to using the texture processors to perform the downsample. If so that's a good point.

Ah, thanks Chris.

*Nods* For max quality texture quality the PSX emulator needs 2058x4096 textures. Which is a reproduction of PSX image texture sizes multiplied several times.((Hence the unusual size)) The main reason to do this is it tends to have a "Super Sampling" effect to the scene. Since everything on the PSX emulation is sent to the framebuffer. Causing slowdown with swirl effects which require alot of framebuffer readbacks. Even on 7800GTX hardware. The newer plugins use the pbuffer to avoid this from happening. So you can play games without a bunch of framebuffer hacks and slowdowns. Unfortunately AA doesnt work with this technique so you can see why the desire to increase texture resolution on these textures would be desirable to rid the edge artifacting effects and still get full speed PSX emulation on all effects.

That's only for shadows though right?
Btw fable is quite buggy for me.
With a 6600GT turning fsaa on causes the game to kick me back to 640x480 low detail.
I however can select 1600x1200 max detail everything.
I've only gotten fsaa to work a few times.

Oh and few games I play seem to lock up my system for no apparent reason (stock speeds)- live for speed and F1 challenge.
What happens is the screen goes blank and no sound but I'm able to get the caps lock key(and other function keys) to blink by pushing them for a few seconds and then I get no responce.
What would that indicate?
It only takes a few minutes for this to happen also
