Quick question on PSN accounts.

Shopping at the Playstation Network:

European mains voltage is 230V these days - continental Europe used to be 220, the Brits had to be a bit French of course and couldn't use that - or the same plug for that matter - so they had 240V. Some time during the early 90s I believe this was all equalized across the continent, for convenience's sake I'd think.

All PS3s should feature universal power supplies btw that work anywhere in the world, with the correct power cable attached...

Hi. I have a few more questions.

What would happen if I buy a PS3 and I move to the Dominican Republic? I know that this country is not supported by Sony. Does this mean that I won't be able to access PSN, so I won't have a profile and I won't be able to access Home, download demos, PSOne classics, etc?

A bit off-topic: are all PS3 models compatible with 120-140-240V? Here in Europe power supply is normally at 240V. Will it work with 120-140V?

Thank you. :)

I think nightshade may know more.

You can also buy PSN cards online. They will send you the code to deposite the $$$ into PS Store.

I thought they did. And that comic refers to the old horrible HTML-based PSN store. (Oh god)
Thank you, but... that doesn't answer my question. Will I have access to all the services (PSN, Home, Store, demos, PSOne Classics) or not?

Thank you. So, no problem on this whichever country you are?

Thank you for the info. Maybe, I'll PM nightshade for him to post here.

I think Nesh lives in a country that is not officially supported by PSN either, thus he accesses the US store with a US account. There's no blocking via geoIP on store, demos, even games or PSOne classics, so that shouldn't be a problem. The only thing that doesn't work if you're not in the correct region is video/film content that's offered through PSN. That one makes sure you're in the right region.

Also be aware that there's still regional blocking on bluray and dvds. You can't buy a US PS3 and play european purchased bluray films. Games on the other hand shouldn't be a problem since they're regionfree.

Not sure how it is with old PSone disks (not purchased through PSN) though. They used to have a regional code but not sure if these still apply on the PS3.

You should be able to visit PS Home with the right (fake) PSN account. e.g., I used to have a Japan account to go to the Japan PS Home even though I'm in US.

Thank you. You've been very helpful! :)

I live in India & Sony India isn't planning on launching PSN anytime soon....they know that most already use a US,UK id & they think that playing online is the only use..lol (should learn something from MS India who launched XBL service here back in 2007 :p)

With that said, I have two PSN ids a US id & another's a UK id...I barely use the UK id though.
I can do everything from playing games, to visiting PS Home and buying contents off PS store !! :D
PSN cards for various stores are available here through various dealers, if not then we always have this website www.maximuscards.com as a backup, once you pay they'll email you the code to redeem the amount anytime within the next 1-2 hours. [The website is totally trustworthy & reliable], or you could just use good ol' ebay to purchase the cards. ;)

One thing which you won't be able to access is the video store, whenever you log into the video store you go through an ip check & you can't access it if you aren't in the country which the PSN id belongs to. As for Blu Ray movies, yes they are region locked but keep in mind that most Blu Ray releases are either Region Free or they are Region A and B (both), rarely you'll find Blu Ray movies that are specific to only one out of the three Regions (A,B & C)

Lastly, there's this case of DLCs for games being region locked. Each & every game that ships to India officially is a EU region ie. PAL copy, so if I use the US store to buy the DLCs it won't work with my EU copies. Make sure that the game's region & the store's region match or else it won't work.

Hope this helps...ask more if you have doubts.

One thing to be careful of is that while just about every game for the PS3 is region free, there are a few games that seem some DLC and updates are region locked, and that can be annoying. I don't know the exact details though, as I haven't imported anything for the PS3 yet (no real need).

Ok, thank you very much for your replies. Everything's clearer, now!

All DLCs are region locked....but 99% of them can be bought of any store that supports the same Disc region. ie. if the disc is PAL then DLCs from any PAL store (be it UAE,AU,UK,French) will work 99% of time.

I say 99% because there is this one game called Uncharted 2, which is somewhat more specific of its need for DLC region. Like I have the PAL copy of UC2 but I can't use the UK store DLC with it eventhough UK is a Pal territory. This is because the store code for UK is BCES 00509 while the "required" store code for my UC2 Pal copy is BCES 00797 (AU store).Keep in mind, UC2 is the ONLY game so far that needs contents from a single specific store. For the rest you can simply buy from any store that falls in the same region code.

To check the store region of your copy you gotta look here:

There is another "secret" but probably useless to you, but I'll mention the last of the information regardless...the secret is that contents from NTSC (NA) & NTSC-J (south-east asian) are inter-shareable. I can use NTSC copy & use asian store DLCs...or vice versa.

P.S.[asian store = HongKong,Singapore,Thailand, Taiwan,Indonesia,Malaysia...Japan is NOT included]

This is interesting - has this ever been solved? Strangely, Uncharted 2 is the one game which I never bought the DLC, so never ran into this problem. Curiousity however had me buy the "stimulus-map-pack" for MW2 from the US store despite my UK release. It didn't work.
I bought the map-pack again over the Swiss local PSN store (was actually wondering if that will work with the UK copy) and to my surprise - the purchase gave me access to about 5 different versions of the same map-pack for what I assume is every version in PAL territory. I would have expected the same to hold true with Uncharted 2 as well if there is a need for a specific version of the DLC?

sorry I messed up the codes BCES 00509 is for AU while BCES 00797 is for UK...I instead said the opposite.
