can the ps3 do downsampling AA at 720p ? realtime procedural ray tracing ? complete procedural fluid dynamics on over a square kilometer ?
 
It sounds as if you're really asking if anyone has used a PS3 as part of a render farm. I don't know, and suspect that this would be a natural application for someone to attempt in linux. A quick google search didn't result in anything concrete. I suspect that low-cost modern PCs with dual core CPUs may do a better job, with more RAM per node...

At what resolution of fluid?

The answer is 'yes' and 'no' to all questions, for all current computers, depending on the essential parameters that define the tasks being asked of them.
