Question about Sony's tech demos vs. the real games.

My guess:

Demos was running in early SDK:

Cell 2.4Ghz - Only PPE (final SDK: 3.2Ghz with all SPEs)
PCI Express 2G/seg (final SDK: FlexIO 35g/seg)
Memory System: 256M (final SDK memory system: 512MXDR)
GPU 6800 ultra SLI - poor interaction with cell (Final SDK: G70++, full otimization for cell, with more clock speedy e maybe more pipe lines)
Memory Video: 256M (sdk final maybe 512M GDDR3)
I'm guessing the full system bandwith will help speed up the framerate and the talk between RSX to Cell once developers get access to a more completed SDK.

But the demos were running smooth, its the actual games that weren't.

Naturally, when there is only the environment and graphic information to process then it will mostly alway sbe better looking than a game that has actual code running at the same time. a godo example of a tech demo vs. in game footage is something sort of like the replay in the Gran Turismo series. The replay usually looks better and the in game footage looks like the regular game. The replay is able to show more detail because that is really all it has to process, the events in the game has already happened so no need to process all that again.

The forbidden PS3 demo = Killzone demo.

There were a ton of demos shown.

Ahh but there were only two contentious ones: one everyone wanted to believe was real (KZ) and one no one really cared about (MotorStorm).

No one cared enough about Motorstorm to start incessant threads about how "real" it was. But everyone interested in either A) a Halo killer or B) an x360 killer wanted to believe KZ was real. I still think discussion of Killzone fits in the thread (since the thread was allowed in the first place) but if the rules say otherwise then ... *shrug* :p

Most of the time when people show off screens of GT.. its the replay they show... why is that? ;)

Well, if that's the case, then I will address the author's question: The Killzone footage looked so great because it was CG. It had nothing to do with stripped out AI or fixed cameras. :)

I was actually more impressed by Motorstorm.

i think everyone weren't arguing much on motorstorm because there were some parts of the demo where people swear they saw some miniscule jaggies...

most people would assume that jaggies = realtime...

Some argued that Heavenly Sword was prerendered too until Deano shut them up. Gundam was considered to be prerendered. And by prerendered, I mean in the sense that it's unattainable by final hardware kind of talk. Killzone and Motorstorm should be in reach relatively early IMO. Project Offset and the results some of the middling devs have already gotten from their early engines makes me confident that a well-funded and talented team like Guerilla and the WRC guys can make good. Something's gotta justify the need for a new console. PEACE.

Graphically they are very VERY tallented. As for other gameplay aspects, maybe not.
Graphically ? Killzone or Shellshock were not considered "eye-candy" games.

Can you share the source of this information, please? Because it does contradict everything we heard and know so far about this demo.

Actual developers working at Guerrilla already confirmed to a few of us that the video was a simple CGi footage outsourced to a UK CG Studio. Laa-Yosh does even know one of the artist who worked on this video.

I don't know who is your source but PSM reported, that the demo was real time at 5 FPS,and that it was sped up post production,in fact the hardware use was 6800 gt in SLI,not even Ultra,it was not real time on E3 but the footage was real time and then sped up for the demo.

Is in french but the scans it has are in english.

Bullshit. I almost get the feeling that dev houses can now use "oh we rendered it 5 FPS and then sped it up" excuse to get a pass on anything remote PS3 related. (terrain demo, etc.)

Just cause it worked for Deano (who is an honest and reliable source) doesnt mean that all of a sudden (after guerilla clearly admitted that it wasnt real) we believe it for KZ regardless of what PSM says...

I say "show me." Show me gameplay with those graphics on real hardware or basically... stfu. This bs has gone on long enough.

Then we should shut the fuck up talking bullshit alltogether about the next gen console games... PGR3, Gears Of War, Killzone, Motorstorm, 99 Nights... all those discussions should be classified bs
No footage yet shown for any next gen console has been on real hardware.
...all those threads speculating and discussing the games in their devkit states... pointless and utter bullshit...

is the new Takken realtime btw? coz i think that should be doable since i already seen some high detailed characters with sweat effects in some EA games.
