"PSX" incompatibilities...

Petit Copter: This remote-control helicopter simulation, released by Aqua System, employs a special RC-styled USB controller that the PSX does not support.

Sidewinder V: The game released in the United States as Lethal Skies II will not support the USB flight sticks released by Logitech and Hori.

Shutokou Battle Zero: Known stateside as Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3, Genki's urban racing game will not support the Logitech GT-Force wheel on the PSX.

Zero 4 Champ Series Drift Champ: Hudson's latest drift-racing game will also not support the GT-Force wheel on the PSX.

Marle de Jigsaw: In what will no doubt be a blow to puzzle-loving gamers
everywhere, Nippon Ichi Software's jigsaw-puzzle spinoff of the Marle Kingdom RPGs will not support a USB mouse on the PSX.

The PSX also has only one USB port, so it won't support any game that requires more than one such port -- a two-player game of Para Para Paradise, for instance. In addition, as reported earlier, the PSX will not support the PlayStation 2 multitap for four-player gaming in any titles that support it.
Seems that the imcompatibility arises from I/O trouble; does "PSX" still have the same I/O engine as PSX2(I am under the impression that it doesn't), or is it using the "PSX" host CPU to route I/O traffics to PSX2OAC???

PSX has one of the USB ports always occupied (as the text you quoted notes).
If a game explicitly enumerates the USB ports(which is possible), and tries to use the enumerated port which is occupied, the USB support in that game will be faulty on PSX.
Meaning the compatibility problem is I/O software related, mainly seems like result of programming not following Sony guidelines enough (explicitly enumerating USB ports has always been advised against, but it wasn't a TRC requirement so games can still be made that way).

You didn't quite read him right... The PSX has only 1 USB port... Games that by default enumerate the other port that exists on the PS2 but doesn't exits on the PSX will run into this problem (as will games that need 2 usb ports)...

In any case Faf is correct in that enumerating specific ports is just bad practice and runs the fault of the developer not following guidelines...

I guess so--unless a USB hub can be plugged in and works. Rather unfortunate that they didn't include at least two again. (Also rather unfortunate that it's not a 2.0 port.)

Anyway, it is a stylish budget DVD/HDD recorder with a PS2 built in. And the first batch was sold out (today is the first day of its release) already in Akihabara as read from DCharlie's post in GA forum. The next batch will be in on 19th (160G version) and 22nd (250G version).

I don't think the above problems are really a problem for 99% of the its users.

Many of the LE version of X-BOX had stayed on the shelf for many many months. Not everything available in limited numbers will be sold out.

Um how many were available and where's your proof? Whether it sells out in one day or one month, it still sold out. Again how many PSX's were available? How many Xbox LE was available. Where's your proof that the Xbox LE stayed on shelves for many many months? If 1000 units were available and sold out in one month while 10000 units sells out in 6 months they still sold out.

You posted a general conclusion, I posted a single example to disprove that. As simple as that. I saw many of them on the shelf many months after the release and that's the fact. There is no need to prove a fact. I rest my comment on this type of worthless argument.

And I saw GOD..what's your point??? My local store has 10 copies of X game. It will be sold out. Why? Because they only have 10 copies...

no proof I'm afraid. just anectotal observation of the where I am.

Does this mean I can't use two Guncon2 at the same time since PSX only had one USB ?
You can always use a USB hub.

However, this won't help applications that are already broken because of the reasons I mentioned above.

so why did they design it this way. You'd think that at its price point they could have spent the dollar it takes to add in a second usb port. Hell my new mobo that i got for 60$ came with 8 usb ports. How much could they possible cost to add in .
