Man, the more i look at those PSPs, the more i want one RIGHT NOW!!!

When's this thing coming out in the UK? Before PS3 comes out? :devilish:

Last I've read would be March 28th 2005 in EU.

I really wish they'd released it here this christmas too, I NEED A NEW GADGET TO PLAY WITH!!!

End of march 05 is pretty quick anyway for Euro launch... It could just as well have been autumn or even winter 05 instead by past experiences. Now all we have to see is if that date actually pans out or if it'll be pushed back towards summer...

As for the people going on about the size of these things and keeping them in a pants pocket... Give it a rest already, okay? Especially PCE - as usual - need to simply CHILL. Both of these gadgets are just too big and expensive to keep in a pocket, the DS's metallic finish is going to be completely ruined by keeping it there and the PSP's screen would be in danger too (and no, I don't care what kind of coatings they put on it, it WILL get scratched anyway if kept in a place like that).

PCE, I don't care if you can keep your DS crammed comfortably up the crack of your ass, bashing PSP because it's 1" longer and can't be kept in a pocket is just dumb. Even by your standards. Nobody that cares about their stuff would keep a game device in a pocket. They're not even made to be carried in pockets. If Sony made mopeds for example I bet you'd still flame them for making it too big for you to carry it in your pocket.

That's just totally stupid. I mean if u hate Sony, why would you buy a PSP (=give them money) only to destroy it........ Just don't buy it, don't support Sony... But hey maybe i'm just weird...

Comparing the same venue (Yodobashi in west Shinjuku) for the NDS launch and the PSP launch...
the demands for the NDS and the PSP are like 1 : 10+

Nonesense, some people really fall for marketing hype hard don't they?...

Nintendo DS was pre-ordered in the millions, it sold over 500,000 in Japan in the first week (sold out).

However DS was pre-orderable and was released early in the morning on the coldest day of the year so far in Japan. A lot of people would not want to get out of bed very early in the morning so they could stand in a queue in the freezing cold for something they already have pre-ordered.

PSP was not pre-orderable, no doubt to create a false image of the device being ultra popular vs the DS. So people liaterally had to stand in a queue or they would not get one.

Plus IGN reported stories of other stores having queue's of hundreds of people for DS, despite them already having a pre-order.

Or maybe Sony didn't think they would have about a million PSPs on launch day.

Maybe he's making a comment on durability

BTW if someone hates Nintendo then why would they buy a DS just so they can make inane fan-boy net humour like the pic you liked so much? :) Ok, they didn't destroy the DS I suppose

What does that have to do with anything?

BTW the number of DS's available on launch day 500,000.

Well then change the number to 500k. My point is, maybe Sony knew that if they pre-ordered 500K psp, they would have had to be sure they'd have that much on launch day.

Here is a definite confirmation of the battery life of the two popular PSP games (one from Tokyopia, other from GA)

The Setup:

The PSP reports 51% battery charge out of the box. The unit is used
(to play assorted games and videos) until it shuts down due to low
battery. It is then recharged to 100%.

Ridge Racers is inserted, and the AC Adaptor is unplugged. The PSP is
powered on and as the Ridge Racers logo appears, the clock is
started. The game is played continuously, with minimal time spent in
any menus and absolutely no replays watched.

The PSP is set to 75% max volume and brightness 3 (the highest
possible when using the battery).

Results:

At 3:45 - 3:48 (that's three hours and forty-five minutes) the POWER
light begins flashing slowly. Note that the light stays green, it
doesn't change color a la Nintendo's handhelds when the battery is
low--it flashes instead.

At 4:03:30, just over four hours, the game is interrupted by a
flashing low battery indicator, and the unit powers down.
So, that's over 4h on max brightness with Ridge Racer. Putting it to medium brightness brings approx 30-50 min of extra life if Fafalada's words are true.

Lumines (a multimedia puzzle game with constant music playing and mixing, and loading from UMD between the levels)
It went about 6 hours on max brightness and full volume. Then it was low so I charged it up while I Was playing.

I checked the IGN site and they said that by 10:30 most of the stores in their area had sold out which wasn't really a couple of hours
Stores were opened at 6 or 7 at the earliest, so 3-4 hours is "a couple of hours"

Well then change the number to 500k. My point is, maybe Sony knew that if they pre-ordered 500K psp, they would have had to be sure they'd have that much on launch day

Why?, as always the stores would tell people once they are past the launch shipment so they would know that they are not pre-ordering a launch system. 500,000 DS's were released at launch, 2 million were pre-ordered. So what's stopping Sony from allowing stores to take pre-orders? If they wanted they could even have told stores only to take pre-orders up to there initial launch number of 200,000. That would be exactly the same as just letting people go out and buy a PSP on launch day. The only difference is you wouldn't have everyone out on the same day and you wouldn't have press waiting to take pics..
