PSP concept model, The REAL deal.

Seriously, I thought it would be smaller. And if Sony is serious, they should reduced the size too. 12 cm x 8 cm x 3 cm, Clamshell design, is what I want.

I said it once, I'll say it again... that GB-SP clamshell looks like a freakin Zack Morris phone with it's rough, hard edged and big buttons.

Clamshell designs are inheriently nerd-like, who wants to be seen opening it up in public? Yeah... good call. Marco know's what's up.

They'd better place that keychain somewhere more central (not on one side, but in middle of two sides.)

But then it would form an inverted "T" shape... that's not cool. Don't you want it to be linear and flow downwards? Just seems more comfortable.

I happen to like the keychain idea myself. Pretty neat, it also give it a sence of scale in the picture.

They could put it in the upper left hand corner, (unless there's shoulder buttons), and then it wouldn't be jutting out into the palm of your hand.

I view that cord as a wrist strap, not keychain. So basically I would put the strap around my left wrist, thus mitigating chance for damage were it to slip out of my hands. That said, the position is correct imo.

It doesn't have to look like GBA-SP.

What's so nerdy about clamshell designs ?

I mean having portable device used to be nerdy, but all the mobile phone ads pretty much change that image. Its all in the mind.

No way, the PSP is going to have the dimensions of a Sega Game Gear which was released several years ago...

ahhh the MicroDrive (codename for Game Gear), that released in 1990 or 1991 I forget.

Nostalgia  : I still got mine including a couple of games, but last time I switched it on I noticed the backlight of the screen was broken. Now I have little to zero contrast  . But that's the circle of life

Nice pics, but the GBA Sp is missing  and the PSP seems to be very flat  . Good pics, they give a pretty fine impression of the real size of the PSP.

The PSP doesn't seem to be fitting in the pocket of your trouser (unless you wear baggy pants), but it seems to fit quite nicely in the pockets of a jacket. That's fine with me. Now change the buttons for god's sake...

 What do you expect? It's basically a piece of paper with a picture printed on it :p

Damn, how they gonna fit all those chips in there, then?! ;)

The D-pad control intrigues me and worries me at the same time. Might they be going for a flat-design analog control in the center? I'd prefer a full stick, but of course that would be obnoxious for a portable device. (I wouldn't mind a detachable one, but that would just be problematic in general.) Perhaps a central shifting nub, or one that rocks in place? Wouldn't be as exacting, but it's quite possible "good enough" will work for handhelds. Worries me, as it seems they have to be pretty clever to get something very functional and comfortable over there in limited space.

I wonder if the outer ring is the digital d-pad and the inner ring is the analog; or the inner ring is digital and the small circle in the centre is the analog control;
or vice versa, which would make more sense...
digital only knows 8 direction so it won't be a critical to a minor wrong direction; and the outer analog control could be steered more precisely...

Looks awesome. I do hope they have some form of convinent screen-protection planned (the obvious advantage of a clamshell design).

Not a great fan of those controls - the aesthetics work well, but it doesn't seem like there is enough tactile feedback.

But otherwise, PSP looks like one sweet piece of kit. If its got 3+ hours of battery life, and they get some FF/MGS/GT-spinoffs for it, I'm buying it.

To be honest, size aint really bothering me. PSP is still a-okay in size. And, as always, to hell with clam shell! Im more concern about the battery life. And well, hopefully i dont get motion sickness playing a 3D handheld.

If I look at 19 cm from my ruler, it looks big.
But in those pictures it doesn't look big :?
About the same width as GBA or GC controller.
If that's correct size, I think it'll be okay after all.

I think I may make my own cardboard PSP mock up....

I need to know which picture to print out though.

Do you often carry around Cube controller? As for the GBA it's too big to be held in a pocket which is where a lot of ppl have their portable music players. For what the PSP is intended as it's a ridiculous design.
