PSP a tool of God

The Sony PSP was built by God to determine who on Earth had the best skills to defeat the armies of Satan for the final battle between Heaven and Hell.

I wonder how much Sony paid SouthPark to do a who show around the PSP.

hahah, i heard funny stuff about that new episode

let me digg into the holy world of the internet to find some bits and pieces of it ..

I just downloaded this episode, hella funny!

I don't think Sony paid them anything actually, anyone remember the episode about the boys trying to get a Sega Dreamcast or the one where they get an Okama Gamesphere? :D

22 Minutes of free advertising for PSP, Sony probably couldn't believe their eyes!

Very naive to think Sony (Or SEGA before them) got all that advertising for free... And right after the US launch of the PSP...

I just don't see Sony coming to Trey Parker and saying "we want you to put PSP all over an episode of South Park, here's a truck load of cash, just do it, do it", or Sega either for that matter. Thats like saying the people who made Constantine paid South Park to promote their movie and Keanu Reeves in that very same episode.

Do you reckon Sony paid Matt Groening to include "Gamestation 252" or "Dingo Dash" in simpsons episodes either?

Maybe it was wrong of me to say "free advertising" as they will no doubt receive some goodies from Sony for including PSP in an episode, but I really doubt they were paid to do it, as South Park are pretty famous for keeping up with current events (and having a hillarious take on them), more than likely they picked up the news and decided to incorporate it into an episode.

Well i can't tell for sure cause i just don't know, but i find it quite convenient that this week's episode of South Park was dedicated to the PSP, the same week the PSP was launched in the US.
Who approached who first is not important, the important thing it that Mr South Park surely got a vast amount of money for 20+ minutes of PSP on TV.

But like I said Constantine and keanu reeves got a huge plug as well, and I don't see them paying south park for it, do you? Likewise I don't see either Sony or South Park (extend to comedy central) forming some agreement to build the show around PSP, all I see them is doing what they usually do and finding something fairly recent in the news and finding some way of making it entertaining, hence i'm sure there was much hype for psp buzzing before it's release in the US, so they figured why not include it in an episode, after all they are just doing what they do best.

Yes I believe that South Park got lots of goodies after people from Sony saw the episode, but I don't believe there was any prior arrangements from either party.

Guess i'm just a cynical bitch then. :devilish: Nowadays, i find it very very hard that someone would publicize something for comedy's sake. Or entertainment in general. Either way, we'll probably never know.

Remember, in parody it also pays to be timely. And on some things, South Park has been nothing BUT timely! (Because their differing animation process, they can toss in new things days before airing.) If they're going to do an episode like that at all, they might as well do it now--when any hype can roll over to make their show more watched/talked-about as well--rather than a year from now when nobody cares.

True, but what I meant by my example is that South Park likes to be timely, whether through a tendency to pull real-life occurrances (such as Saddam's capture) and toss them into an episode within a matter of days, or to do an episode about a particular subject while it is on everyone's mind.

i'v read they mention something about Terri Schiavo also .. ? if that's true it's really made in a week time or so

Yes Terri Schiavo is more or less in the episode, but in the form of Kenny, I won't say much more on the subject because I don't wanna ruin the episode for people who haven't yet seen it.

I'll tell you an anecdote about Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the South Park creators, the agent of Jerry Seinfield, the US stand-up comedian, call them told them that Jerry would love to work with them... Parker and Stone said cool we have a job for him, he will be the turkey #14 (No voice, only sounds), in the episode where hundreds of turkeys go postal and kill people...

If they talked about the PSP, I'm certain they did it because they wanted to.

Or maybe Hollywood, finally, transformed them into greedy bastards. This option can't be exclude, though.

That was one hella good episode of South Park- a wonderful tie-together of multiple pop culture themes. Very clever and entertaining, AFAIC.

How anyone can only see this episode as a shameless PSP plug is beyond me (remember they did have an episode long ago "centered around" a mock X-box console, but whatever).

What this episode was really about was to be a vehicle to make a Terry Shiavo commentary (which I feel was very on-target, as well).

Not Xbox it was Okama Gamesphere, more or less playing with Nintendo Gamecube

South Park always deals with current events, that's why it's still the best satire on the planet. All the best episodes are to do with current events.

I think this episodes take on the Chiavo situation was spot on, and really the point of the episode. The PSP was just thrown in there as a hook.

I honestly doubt they were paid off. Because they don't really need it, and I doubt they'd accept it, they're too stuck up for that.

Why don't you ask? They're having a chat with Matt Stone on Tuesday at southparkstudios.com.
