PS3 Test Request

I know there's a lot of questions people have that are most easily answered by those with the system itself. As such, I figured I'd start a thread specifically for that purpose. Basically, those curious about a feature, supported peripheral, option, etc post their questions here, and those of us with the console well check and share our results. Particularly since most won't be able to get them very easily for at least a couple of months. Please be as detailed as possible with your request.

There are at least 2 common request that I know of, one of which I said I would try in another thread:

Request: VGA Support
  • Try out the PS3 using the HD15 cable SCE supplied Linux Kit users. Test using a standard CRT monitor, a sync on green CRT monitor, and a standard LCD monitor.
Result Status (11/20/06):
  • -Gradthrawn: I have the cable, and 3 displays to try out. I've also had the console since Friday. But, what can I say, Resistance owns me. :p I will have this tested by the end of the week.

Request: Bluetooth Headsets
  • Find out what Bluetooth headsets the PS3 supports.
Results (11/20/06):
  • -Gradthrawn: I only have a Motorola H700 to test out.
Attempt 1
  • Started the Bluetooth headset search process in the PS3's XMB.
  • Attempted to put the headset into "find" or "sync" mode w/o opening the flip mic (as this would connect it to my cell phone).
  • The PS3 did not see the headset and continued to search for devices (will continue to search until you tell it to stop, as far as I can tell).
  • Repeated this procedure several times
Attempt 2
  • Turned off the cell phone the headset was paired to.
  • Set the headset to sync mode.
  • The PS3 finds the headset!
  • The PS3 then ask for a passkey (to secure the connection between the headset and the PS3).
  • I don't remember how this procedure worked with my cell phone, nor did I have the manual on hand.
  • Will get the manual online and try again.
Summary:
I think the current problems with it not finding headsets (like IGN's) stem from the headset already being paired with a device, and that device still being on. I'm guessing there's a default passkey that's in the manual somewhere that will allow me to register the device. I will report the results back later today.

Bluetooth passkeys are usually 0000.

Thank you. I believe I may have tried that out, but I'm not really sure. I should be able to find the manual online pretty easily, and then test it latter when I get home.

UPDATE:

It seems you're right on the money. I couldn't find the manual on Moto's site (I thought they were there, maybe its only for their cell phones) but I did fnd this pretty easily:

You want to say "YES", of course, at which point the SLVR will ask you for the bluetooth passkey of the H700, which, like all Motorola bluetooth headsets, is 0000. Enter it:

Thanks again.

here is few:

- Can PS3 Linux mount XMB partition? Or can it see only linux partition?

- Can XMB acces NTFS HDD partitions via USB connection? Or only FAT...

- Did anybody tried to purchase some arcade game and share it to 5 friends? :)

it shouldn't be any compatibilities issues with bluetotth headset profile it has been on the market for several years. but it would be intresting to see if bluetooth 2.0 a2dp profile works (no mic support just HQ audio profile).

Update:

VGA Support:
I still haven't had time to fully test it, but I did get a chance to test out a flat panel monitor. The results were unsuccessful, with each combination I tried (listed below). If anyone has any recommendations in regards to settings to try, please feel free to share.

Display used:
  • Planar PL1910M
Cable used:
  • SCE HD15 VGA cable supplied with PS2 Linux Kit.
Settings Tested:
  • Resolutions Tested:
    • 640x480
  • Connection Types Tested:
    • Component/D-terminal -Failed
    • A/V Multi-out/SCART
      • Y/Pb/Pr -Failed
      • RGB -Failed

Each combination of the above failed to produce an image, the monitor simply displayed "No Signal." My next test will be with a sync-on-green type CRT monitor.

My Sony E230 "sync on green" monitor doesn't work. It work on my PS2. Sux ordered a Bravia will be here 2 days time. :/

Btw, my SonyEricsson headset HBH-700PV work.

Can PS3 detect Bluetooth devices such as Cell Phones? Can we transfer data from a Cell Phone to PS3?

Has anyone been able to test a component -> VGA adapter on a CRT?

There are retail converters out there and they SHOULD work. I have one for the GCN and it works great. But do read up on the products first as some stink, likewise you will want to see what type of device you are hooking it up to (e.g. some LCDs are picky). Some people tried some at Ars. I would recommend my GCN one, but it is GCN specific (modified GCN Component Cable with 15pin VGA connector). Here are some links to get your started, although you could just use the google I tried. I know Londboy had linked to one in the past as well.

Ps- of worthwhile note, VGA on a CRT will most likely have to be 720p unless you have a 1920x1080(1200) CRT. Also, you will want to make sure your CRT can squash the image because most likely 720p is going to be pushed to a 4:3 aspect and you will need to squash the signal to get it closer to the 16:9 aspect of 720p. Hopefully someone does some testing of the PS3 specifically for us :D
