[PS3] Resistance 3 [SPOILER ALERT - Contains R2 story discussion]

That was pretty funny in a sad way. I remember being frustrated with the install/loads in MGS4, but thought it was ok for most other games in general sans Ninja Gaiden Sigma which loads mid-level at times (didn't on OG XBOX).

I didn't play R2 and didn't finish FROM. I had a tough time with FPS games on PS3 and tend to be low tier in FPS games in general. If R3 has a decent/good SP campaign, I may pick it up when the price drops (awaiting B3D impressions).

Mass Effect 2 has pretty bad load time too.

R3 SP is great. It's the best in the series. The game is fleshed out in every direction. You should check it out !
The upgradable weapons are fun to use. The atmosphere is like Bioshock (Some say like Half-Life 2 in some parts). The game also has an Extras menu for you to acquire "cheats". e.g., You can buy Health Regen using the in-game credits (earned from your in-game performance), you can also assign more powerful weapons to the Chimeras, etc.

Some people encountered some audio sync issues (hopefully addressed in v1.0.2 patch). I encountered 1-2 scripting bugs. One of them forced me to restart from the last checkpoint. Other than that, it's a fine game. The resolution is low (960 x 704), but the art direction, amount of details in some set pieces, and the amount of effects in combat are very well done.

Probably does test the patience of many. I never understood why full installs aren't an option, but anyway I'll probably buy this and Gears. But now I don't know if I want to get dark souls as well....decisions... decisions.

I agree. Completed the game 5 minutes ago. There are some levels I want to replay again and again. Would be nice if Sony allows me to install the entire game to HDD.

EDIT: Now onto MP.

Actually, the best way to enjoy the game is to think about R2. It will lower your expectation and let R3 guide you from there. ;-)

The game can be difficult towards the end. I dropped difficulty down to Normal coz I have work to do.

I never played MS2 since I didn't even finish the first one.
I have too many games that I haven't finished, although the biggest culprits are the longish (greater than 20-30 hrs) games, which is why I'm reluctant to even start FFXIII.

I hear that R3 does not have an overly long campaign, which can be good. If I didn't play R2, will I be lost in R3?

Depends on the difficulty level you play with. I completed it in 3 sittings. Took me 9-10 hours to complete it on Hard (except for last 3 chapters).

The game is well paced and intense. I have seen a few negative user impressions, but most users are wowed by the game.

EDIT: Cornsnake, did you order this game ? I have a feeling you may like it.

Very good game, 3/4 finished I think. Like the boss fights and the twist.

Engine is good too. The rain is fantastic and I like how it seems almost every light source casts shadows. Monumental upgrade over the somewhat sterile Resistance 2.

Yes ! 676Mb day one patch.

But it's so very worth it... T_T

EDIT: The download is especially frustrating because after all the "incredible" user impressions and your own disappointment in R2, you want to see it for yourself. Then you are hit by this huge download. From my office, it only took 5 minutes to download and patch. I figured other people with slow network would suffer. :)

I got the game yesterday, that is yesterday EU time.
And I had 2 of those patches to download, 686 for 1.01 and then the 1.02 at 676 zzzz
But the worst part was they disconnected my coop game to tell me about the 1.02 :/

Still the SP thus far is good, just got St. Louis when the patch arrived :D

Woah ! And I thought the 2 patches would be combined into one. Sony seriously need to update their game patching system to be like firmware update.

today is release date in EU, got it pre-ordered but have to wait till end of work, I really thank myself for being so damn professional

Take your time. It's best to play it without any hype. Just remember my warning about not running too far ahead of unique NPC. In addition, sometimes the next action would not trigger until you completed the on-screen instructions (They are tutorial-like info messages).

That and the 2 hefty patches. :p

ha ha, I am not afraid of the patches...I have 100mbit at home
but I admit, that I am prone to Rage Quit the PS3 updating system

Ok, I'm seeing some complains about MP lag. I don't seem to experience them in US. Anyone ? May be it's an EU specific issue.

EDIT: Hmm... yeah.. I'm seeing it too. Pretty bad lag when playing with EU and Asian gamers.

Most likely they are, its just that I got the 1.01 patch when i booted the game, before 1.02 was released. And then 1.02 came while I was playing, do not mind the patches, what I mind is that they stopped my game during gameplay to tell me to do the patch.

It may be because they needed to sync the client and server code. During the beta, it led to crashes when they switched version without syncing everyone.

I played MP for an hour yesterday. It looks like some sort of stutter. Not sure if it's server related or client threading/stalling issues. The cause is probably quite subtle.

The maps are fun though. 12 maps altogether. Not all modes are supported in each map. I haven't tried all yet.

Picked this up today and am really enjoying it so far! Technically (screen rez aside) its head and shoulder about the previous 2. Lots of really nice incidental details, and the framerate holds up really well considering the amount of action in certain areas.

There are some truly horrible looking creatures in this game, and then there are the chimera. Anyway, I made it to chapter 2.

Hah ! Must be the
humans ? Is it that bad ? I  the settings

What difficulty level are you playing as ? I see nightshade and Billy_Idol playing the game too. Would be interesting to hear your impressions because I have always been curious about art vs tech. The game lowers the tech specs to realize the art direction and gameplay effects they were looking for.
