[PS3] Resistance 3
I like what I've played so far.
However I cant Unsee the considerable downgrade in texture quality, I am fine with the reduced res if it helps the overdraw and I'm fine with the downgraded water effects (there's literally no effect at all apart from a poorly animated sprite) and such as well cause they are not as frequent but texture res.....uuugh.

Yes, the B3D crowd is probably one of the toughest audiences for this game. Disappointed fans + eagle eyes + tech knowhow. >_<

OTOH, it's what makes the experiment more interesting. Complete the game and we'll talk again I guess. ^_^ You're playing on Difficult ?

If you want to check your total game time, excluding replay time due to death, the stats is in "Multiplayer" > "Profile" > L1 (to move to "Campaign mode"). Mine is 9:11 hrs, which means I probably played closer to 10 hours.

Hah ! Must be the
humans ? Is it that bad ? I  the settings

Yup. They look weird, and they animate poorly.

What difficulty level are you playing as ? I see nightshade and Billy_Idol playing the game too. Would be interesting to hear your impressions because I have always been curious about art vs tech. The game lowers the tech specs to realize the art direction and gameplay effects they were looking for.

I'm playing on difficult. I just got to chapter 6.

The overall picture does look kinda nice. It's the smaller details that are lacking, combined with the low resolution. It's an interesting trade-off because it does manage to create a great atmosphere with all the effects. And there's a nice sense of scale to it. I'm curios to see what more they'll do with it. IMO too many games are being scaled back just so they can make the floor look all pretty.

The gameplay has been great so far, it's really frantic. It's a lot more like the proper sequel I wanted. Now I just need to get my hands on some new guns.

Yea I'm playing on difficult.

Ok, I'm seeing some complains about MP lag. I don't seem to experience them in US. Anyone ? May be it's an EU specific issue.

EDIT: Hmm... yeah.. I'm seeing it too. Pretty bad lag when playing with EU and Asian gamers.

Yes if you are having lag issues please let us know your connection type and if it is wired/wireless. If you are seeing framerate drops, please let us know when those are occurring and what is happening at the time.

We have a patch coming soon (maybe as early as tomorrow) that will fix what we think is causing the framerate drops and a lot of the lag. But since all connections are different, it helps to get more specifics.

Thanks guys.

Just arrived in
New York
, graphics wise its much better than the first two. The control is fantastic, but it has just turned into a FPS Uncharted clone, bit disappointed about that.

Just started, still defending the evacuation. Liking it so far but it's lacking something RoFM had, maybe it's the music. But then again I guess it's all subdued for a reason. Mainly that we got our butts kicked by the chimera.

Did Nathan Hale know the tower would form a wormhole? Does that mean at the end of R2 we were, in fact, playing the bad guy?

I'm at chapter 11, which goes on, and on, and on,.....

Which NPC do I need to kill to get a Carbine. :devilish:

Much later... sadly Carbine doesn't feature heavily in R3.

BoardBonobo, too early for that spoilered discussion ! Have you completed the game ? ^_^
I don't remember RFOM had great sound track. I recall it has that dum-dum-dum military music going on in MP lobby.

Don't you want to spoiler tag the location ? I lowered my difficulty level down to normal in the last 3 chapters. I shall go back and complete them on difficult later. ^_^

EDIT:
Introducing my new GAF R3 clanmates... There are a few AWOL'ed folks, but we are kicking again:

Oh yes, see the man second from the left ? She's a grrl. And she tops the scoreboard usually (^_^)
patsu hate to lose to Pikma but I can't beat her for the life of me. :devilish:

What a cool game so far!! Very very good! Astounding: graphics do it for me, great effects and cool action! There are some low res textures around, but there are also some realy nice textures...I also like the lightning effects, but what is good...sometimes there is really a lot of action on screen...cool!

I can understand someone mentioning UC2: you have the ultra intense battles...then you have the intermediate calm section where you walk around in an ultra detailed and lovely crafted place...nice!

I must admit, that I sometimes get a HALO vibe from playing this game...which is good, which is very good..the only thing missing to really push it further is an intense battle music which makes HALO and HALO2 so extremely good for me!

So far, ultra varied, nice places, memorable combats, great gameplay with the weapon wheel, nice graphics effects, story is good to follow and makes sense, a believable and interesting world...not much to complain except the missing ultra pushing combat music a la HALO.

I am now in
this village at night, where I have to find this preacher guy and ther are all grims around....at this part, it is like a zombie shooter :), my wheapon wheel is nearly full

Heh heh, also feels like atmospheric shooters such as Bioshock, HL2.

Towards the end, I think you'll see why it's like Uncharted too. But I can understand why.

I hope Insomniac patch up the lag bug quickly, and then plug those scripting bugs in SP.

I hit a bug last night. I was in one section where you have to defend a position from the Chimera. But they never showed... Cowards!!

But other than that it was pretty much a perfect ROFM experience. It was just the very beginning that felt different, it soon moved into a nerve wrecking gun and run, with familiar Chimeran enemies. But everything is on a much grander scale with some amazing attention to detail. There are a number of low res textures and the lack of AA is apparent in places. But in other places the detail is of UC2 calibre.

I must admit that Resistance is my favourite series on the PS3, it'll be a shame if this is the last one.

Well, had a good few hours today and thoroughly enjoying it! At time the game looks really up there with the best! Its really just the reduced screen res that goes against. The atmospheric details are really well done, coupled with the grain filter give it i think quite a unique look.

So you completed the game ? Coz I don't want to spoil it for you by talking about something you haven't seen yet.

James Stevenson confirmed that R3 is not the last Resistance game. At this very moment, they are also making a Resistance game for Vita. Judging from the ending, I'd have to agree with Mr. Stevenson. ;-)

Yap, the look is sometimes similar to KZ2. I like it that way. Thought I'd never see that kind of visual style again. T_T

I'm at chapter 15 or 16, or something.
The prison.
This game sure does disgusting very well.

I think that was a good twist. Didn't expect the story to go there.

... and I'm usually pretty good at guessing the ending, and who did it. :devilish:

While waiting for you guys, I'm starting a second playthrough now, only for the last 3 chapters. Trying to mob everything up in Difficult. Some Gaffers could do it all in Difficult. One completed Superhuman in 5 hours. Crazy !!!

Btw, there is a Health Regen cheat in the "Extras >> Shop" menu. I reckon if you turn that on, you can play it like Halo. Will try it some day. There are other interesting options there too (e.g., Getting the AI to use secondary fire).

Yeah, that was a good twist.
It did feel bit weird to suddenly be killing humans after killing all those chimera without really thinking about it.

Odd. my Difficult replay is noticeably easier than my first time. There are fewer enemies this trip (2 more chapters to go !)

I also begin to notice more AI actions.
e.g., The regular Hybrids can climb between floors. Interesting to watch them do it. And I don't mean using the ladder or staircase. ;-)

Occasionally I can catch one frozen like a dummy though. The aliens need to standardize their tests, like George Bush's 'No Child Left Behind' scheme.

I'm just up to the rainy level and so far it's been quite a good ride with some nice set pieces and gun play. I do have to admit graphically it's quite a bit too blurry for my liking, I see tons of low res textures, low poly models and rigid animations although the particle effects, motion blur, physics and lighting "dynamic light & shadow" have been ampped up considerably. It's not top tier on the ps3 but it's definitely respectable. Maybe I'm still too early in the game to see some crazy in your face sh&t?
Again I'm really enjoying it and hopefully the series would come back to PS4 one day and truly unleashing Insomniac's vision:).
