[PS3] Resistance 3
It works for me. Looks like something went wrong with your game install. :(

Because of the way the developers craft the game, the 3D effect made R3 locations look "volumetric", somewhat on par with KZ3 but darker. KZ3 shows more variety and more Hollywood-style cinematic. R3 is more homely, or more trilling depending on where you are. It's not truly scary but occasionally, I wanted to know "Are they still behind me ?", "Where is that noise coming from ?". Don't go in with a horror game mindset, it's a shooter and you have a weapon wheel. ^_^

EDIT: FPS veterans should play in Difficult mode, and drop difficulty to Normal temporarily if you want.
Got the 3D to work.
Reinstalling the game actually didn't help, I had to start the game in 2D mode, play until the first savepoint, exit to main menu, enable 3D, continue from the save and 3D worked from there on.
The 3D doesn't seem quite as good as in KZ3. In R3 I get some severe crosstalk if the weapon aim reticule is on a dark background, also when zooming in on some of the weapons it's harder to aim because there is some double vision which I don't recall KZ3 had.
Also now I'm left with some corrupted data in the games menu. Got rid of the corrupted file in the game data menu, but when I did the rebuild database there appeared the corrupt file in the games menu.
Maybe my HDD is going kaputt, I'm not sure but it feels like game installs are taking longer than before... must make a backup before too late. Thank Sony for PSN+ cloud save!

Finally can sit down and play !

Playing in 3D in Difficult mode. Not playing with Move this round since I suck at it. :)

Liking Resistance 1 and supporting the Move is what may make me play this game. But I think I'll first spend some time with LBP2's update. Still, shooting with Move was awesome in Killzone 3, and I could definitely have some more of that. Perhaps I'll wait until TTP's iwaggle3d review. :)

A most definite yes. Day and night difference between the 2-year R2 and the 3-year R3. :p
Tech specs is lower in R3. But everything about the game is meatier in R3.
!

I thought there's more overdraw in this one? In the campaign?

Hmph, I need to check aim down sight. I seldom use it.

I don't remember the crosstalk on dark background. On my setup, I seem to notice it more for white background (e.g., in KZ3 snow scene). :devilish: What TV are you using, just so I know what to expect when I get a new TV next time ?

KZ3 3D is sharper and more spectacular for sure, but I also noticed slight crawling.

I did have a headache after 2 hours of continuous 3D. Turned it off and continued as 2D. Will probably follow the same approach tonight.

I will try Move in my second playthrough. I think I'll die more often because I am rather bad at close combat with Move. I'll shoot slightly better, but quick movement is a little awkward.

Yes, but most people look at the resolution and other bullet points (like number of players in MP), and go argh !

It's hard to explain what and how R3 does better than R1 and 2 until they see it for themselves. ^_^

I think Move controls are almost as good as in KZ3. Just reduce the deadzone to minimum and up the turning speed a bit.
It's not quite as satisfying though, maybe due to the framerate which doesn't seem as stable as in KZ3.
I've played it for about an hour now with 3D and Move, I think aiming might actually be easier without 3D, and might even go back to Dual Shock, as that's just how I'm used to playing.
As good as the Move is, playing with DS is just more relaxing.

I have a Samsung Plasma PS59D7005, and there's usually very little to no crosstalk in movies or other games (MS:Apocalypse, KZ3). If there is crosstalk, it is usually just with some light object on a dark background, but it's not a common occurrence.
There is the 3D depth slider, maybe lowering that a notch or two could help with the crosstalk and double vision.
Edit: I adjusted the 3D perspective from the TV settings, and it made things better. Actually I had adjusted the same setting already for my 3D Blu-rays as there was some slight crosstalk on the default setting, which went away after adjusting it up a notch. I had forgotten to do the same for PS3's HDMI input.

The weapon crosshair is anyway too big and white in R3, there should be an option to make it more lighter and smaller.
Edit: The crosshair was too big only in the very beginning of the game, once you get your hands on actual weapons, it's ok.

I suspect there might be some fault with my HDMI cable, as I notice some red sparklies on the very top edge of the screen, these are only with PS3. Need to try another cable if the sync problem would go away then...
Edit: The sparklies went away after replacing the HDMI cable, and RE3 had no syncing problems after that. But 3D photos that I tried to view from the XMB now had the same problem... image split horizontally in half and pinkish noise. If I view the photos from the Play Memories app, they work fine.

Got the game. Been playing Y4 so I was used to 60 fps and this feels pretty jerky when moving horizontally. Other that that feels pretty much like R2 with hicks instead of military people. Upgrading weapons feels nice though!

I'll have to play Hardcore Mode before it gets my approval. There's a lot more I want, or perhaps don't want, beyond no perks. Thing like weapon pick-ups, no killstreak rewards, an accurate Carbine.

think Insomniac is still fixing the MP. I hope the Hardcore mode doesn't have killstreak too. Carbine is still a little off compared to RFOM. Bullseye is superb.

no killstreaks in the hardcore playlist either.

I'm looking forward to playing the campaign. I bought the game on Tuesday and played a few rounds of multi-player online, getting my *ss kicked pretty reliably.

I am on the last 3 chapters playing on difficult. It can be hard. Dropped to Normal in one encounter and then back up again. ^_^

Encountered one or two scripting bugs. My advice is to follow the NPC(s) closely. Don't run too far ahead of them. Sometimes you need the unique character to trigger the next scene. I had to restart the SP twice from the last checkpoint because of stuck progress.

Other than that, the game is solid so far. In a sense, it is a better "Resistance: Fall of Man" than "Resistance: Fall of Man". ^_^

EDIT: Also, a patch is coming today. Hopefully it will fix the scripting bug I encountered.

Did I send the GAF chatroom link to you ? Come join us someday. It's a loose group. Usually, we check the chatroom to see if someone's playing the same game, and then ask them to send an invite.

It's more fun to play with Gaffers who know their games. ;-)

Was playing COOP online with a friend, when the game disconnected me, and kindly informed me that patch 1.02 was available and that I had to update, WTF???

Other than that it looks like, and the controls are really good. I guess we'll continue tomorrow, but #"¤%"# the forced disconnect during playing to download and install a new patch.

Heh heh, I came here to post the Patch 1.0.2 update:
http://www.insomniacgames.com/resistance-3-patch-1-02-notes/

Patch 1.02 for Resistance 3 is now available worldwide. We apologize for having two large patches this close to launch, but as you know, we’ve had a lot of issues to address from the Public Beta, and this has created the need for large patches. If you just want to play SP, you can ignore the patches (though there are some small fixes to the campaign) – but to go online, you will need to download them.

We wanted to detail some of the fixes in 1.02 for you. There are A LOT of fixes in this patch, some of which some players may not notice and are not worth detailing, but here are the big ones:

-Players should no longer get into “dead” games that don’t operate correctly
-Improvement in framerate/lag
-Matchmaking fixes
-Fewer players floating / clipping through environment
-Fix for freezing/crashing issues if you join a game as it is ending
-Can no longer leave party while in a co-op game (was causing a crash)
-Party fixes dealing with multiple invites, co-op
-Some SFX in St. Louis have been cleaned up
-Broadway map now loads games correctly
-Fixed issues when late-joining a campaign co-op game
-Multiple fixed issues on Chapter 13 in co-op
-Female voice over will now play for female skins in MP
-Player using Hazmat ability will no longer appear to catch fire or freeze
-Other various lobby, menu, co-op and multiplayer fixes

We are still working hard here to reduce lag / framerate issues that you see in the beta and. We have another patch already in the works to continue addressing new issues we’ve seen since launch, though many of these issues may be improved by the fixes in patch 1.02. Those issues include:

-Lag/Server sync issues
-Framerate drops and hitches
-Games where players cannot capture the flag/destroy a Node/etc.

We know this patch should resolve many issues, but please know we are continuing to monitor your feedback via Twitter, Facebook, the Insomniac Games Forums and MyResistance.net as we develop patch 1.03. We’ve already gotten a lot of good data from the first couple of days, and are continuing to develop more fixes to give you a world-class online experience. If you spot other issues, please report them as quickly and in as detailed a way as possible.

Looks like they cleaned up a lot of the issues we faced in MP. Good luck to Yurop people tomorrow. I'll see you on MP some day. I should be able to complete the campaign tonight. ^_^

JPT, I didn't know you have the game coz I didn't see you playing R3 on the friends list. I did see Ygg play it yesterday.

Is this the typical first time experience on the PS3 for this game?

NSFW-ish:

Yes ! 676Mb day one patch.

But it's so very worth it... T_T

I have seen the game changed people.

In GAF XMB chatroom:

Day N - 2: "The best R3 fans are dead R3 fans"

Day N + 1: "patsu, are you playing with Lince now ? You want to co-op in superhuman ?"

 These quotes are real btw

EDIT: The download is especially frustrating because after all the "incredible" user impressions and your own disappointment in R2, you want to see it for yourself. Then you are hit by this huge download. From my office, it only took 5 minutes to download and patch. I figured other people with slow network would suffer. :)

That was pretty funny in a sad way. I remember being frustrated with the install/loads in MGS4, but thought it was ok for most other games in general sans Ninja Gaiden Sigma which loads mid-level at times (didn't on OG XBOX).

I didn't play R2 and didn't finish FROM. I had a tough time with FPS games on PS3 and tend to be low tier in FPS games in general. If R3 has a decent/good SP campaign, I may pick it up when the price drops (awaiting B3D impressions).

Probably does test the patience of many. I never understood why full installs aren't an option, but anyway I'll probably buy this and Gears. But now I don't know if I want to get dark souls as well....decisions... decisions.
