played the whole evening yesterday.
first impressions:
I can understand now some of the critics...it astounds me as it is kind off basic stuff:
- The time you can run is much to short?!? I don't understand the reason behind this? They should increase the time, or alternatively decrease the recover time.
- Short respawn time is good in the sense of that you don't have to wait for hours to get back to action. But it is so short, that it is nearly impossible to re-vive someone with medic?!? People tyically don't wait, but immediately hit the respawn button, even when I just try to heal them. It does not help either that the radius where you can heal someone is rather short - you have to walk close up to the body...which often takes to much time, because respawn time is to short.
-I like the unlocking system so far. But I have the feeling that the unlock system is rewarding at the beginning and gets difficult the higher your rank is...in BF BC2 you unlock stuff for each class individually (which is rewarding all the time) and have some generall stuff which takes some time - perfect mix if you ask me!
-I like the XP system much much more than in KZ2, now you get points for everything it seems...I have to check first all the actions if you really get points for everything...but so far it is very rewarding and makes lots of fun..similar to BF BC2 (although I wonder if there is so much variety)
-I think, in warzone for the objectives much much more points are needed. Very smart: I get points when I pick up the speaker for instance - this is smart. But I only get 150 points when I deliver it (which is unbelievable difficult, only managed it once due to super luck). A kill for instance gives you 100, a head shot 150...this is absolutely not balanced! Speaker deliver needs 500 points for instance.
-Mechs are great, either fighting with or fighting against! I managed to take out one looser on foot, while he battled another Mech
But I really hope, that they include levels with some tanks, where you kind of have an interesting balance
-I don't understand the area capture system up to now? It seems to be very difficult, as in all the games I played, hardly any other spawn points are captured?!?
-How does the damn squad system works? In BF BC2 I just say: search a squad for me - and bang, I am in a squad. In KZ3 I don't know what to do to get into a squad?!? Squad is essential for the fun, so this is a big problem IMO.
-With respect to tech: game looks superb. This is probably one of the first games, which just puts to much onto the screen. There is so much detail, there is so much chaos, debris explosions, shaking camera...I get sometimes an audio-visual overload...
But overall the game feels very un-smooth! Framerate and probably additional online lag is a downer.
-although I mainly played warzone, operations seems to be interesting to...I wonder if there is variety in the release.
-shooting and fighting seems to work well, but I did not have any complains in KZ2 either
- overall, the atmosphere is great and breath taking, but sometimes the game tends to chaos...which depends a little bit on the tech side (framerate+lag) as well...in the middle of a chaotic fight - you need good controll over your actions to survive.
-I did not unlock the standard ISA rifle yet (my fav in KZ2), but it seems to me that I get killed a lot with this weapon...overpowered?
At the end, my impression is rather positive - I thought it is the worst game in the world reading all the reactions at GAF and here..but so far, it seems to be ok...although lots of tweaking is indeed necessary...on tech side and on game design side.
EDIT:just posted this stuff in the beta forums...
