[PS3] Infamous

The only thing I would love to add to this game (so far) is a power that gives you a pulse of lift, like an uber jump. Even if it used a ton of power it would be great to have a long jump ability like hulk.

Then it's time for all of us to start making noise on a bunch of forums, because I too would love to see this, and in todays day and age, there's no reason we couldn't see it in DLC :)

I played the demo last night for a while. First of all, that's a great demo in terms of lenght. It's annoying to sit there and load up big demos to get 5mins of playtime. Well done sucker punch of providing a demo that gives you a good flavor of the game.

The graphics were nice but often it seemed to be at the expense of framerate when doing a large amount of explosions. Like clearning the tracks for the train by blowing up the cars in place. However these situations didn't come up too often during my playtime so things ran smooth for the most part.

I wish there was a zoom option (is there?) when you're firing at people in the distance. Having the enemies being able to shoot you easily while you try to line up the circle with their head proved to be a challenge at a distance. Also, is it me or the roll makes you practically invincible?

The jumping was cool but there didn't seem to be any penalty for missing jumps or frankly, any real technique. In Crackdown, you almost had little puzzles in the way you could scale certain building and if you feel you were hurt or killed. I jumped off a few high building only to land cleanly or better yet it was promoted to power up my ground pulse thingy or I could levitate and control my rate of descent. I noticed that when I'd jump close to something he'd automatically grab and get ready to climb vs just jumping to where I need him to go.

It was cool having all these powers to do moves but just the powers alone doesn't seem enough. It would be nice to be able to pick up weapons (maybe I'm just a gun junkie!?). Are there vehicles in the game? To have a big open world would any vehicles you can use seems a bit weird. However, you can do some real cool combinations with the moves you have. Just that over the lenght of the game, it might get somewhat boring to not be able to drive to places or shoot the guns that keep shooting you.

I really enjoyed all the animations and power combinations you could do but I found the npc's to be a bit plain. They AI didn't do much and the spectators seemed to have Assassins Creed syndrome in that they repeated the same stuff over and over.

Perhaps I missed the detail but I couldn't tell what the diff was between good and evil outside of shooting blue stuff vs red stuff. What I though was life bar was a good/evil circle and what's the lightning stuff next to the circle?

Overall, the demo was good but nothing screamed must have to me. Isn't there a similar game coming shortly called "prototype" or something?

I really only have a problem with one part of your post, and that's the weapons part.

IMO, if inFamous is boring w/out guns, then GTA is boring without powers.

If inFamous is boing w/out the ability to drive cars, then GTA is boring w/out the ability to ride around on power lines and jump off the tops of buildlings.

I just feel like it's a bit ridiculous to want features from another game when it's clear there are reasons for it being the way it is.

Other than that, I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and this isn't so much directed at you as it is a lot of folks in general whom I have noticed have the same thoughts :)

I believe the full game has a focus mode which is like a sniper rifle.

Not really. Check the own thread. All media points it more to being like Hulk:UD than Infamous. Neither of these games seems particularly similar to Crackdown in gameplay.

Got the special edition today, has been fun so far. Just doing the sidequests now and looking for the stuff you can collect.

I've been going after dead drops and blast shards like crazy, lol. I've got about 25% of the blast shards so far, still on the first island. I want to clear out the entire island before I move on.

I've also just been running around and "sniping" enemies to get as much XP as I can (and get a little more evil :D).

Very cool demo. It's rare that I play a demo to completion, and exceedingly rare that I play it twice. I played the inFamous demo twice, good fun! Just picked it up today, Frys has it for $52.99 for today only I believe.

EDIT: Uncharted demo code has been claimed, that was quick :)

I got it yesterday too. Haven't started playing. Took a quick glance at the GAF inFamous thread, seems largely positive... well more positive than I thought.

When's the U2 MP beta starting ?

Good old GAME delivered mine yesterday, but didn't get in until around 11 so only had a quick half hour to give it a whirl.

The intro mission didn't do much for me but I guess it's there for contrast, i.e. Cole minus powers. I do like the way that early in the game the citizens become proper hostile; this gives you a good of idea of one of the consequences of going down the dark path whereas in the demo when the 'karmic shift' sets you as inFamous you get the powers but not the lynch mobs :)

I was also pleasantly surprised that the moral choices implementation was much less cheesy than many reviewers had made it sound. I can see myself losing a lot of my weekend to this game when I get to play it proper tomorrow.

After these last posts from b3d posters i am buying this game as well. I was a little on the fence because of some of the bad reviews, like 7/10 on eurogamer. After playing the demo i had a hard time understanding why this should be 7/10.

Note* to those that play the demo, you get a taste of the good powers and the bad powers, thats why you suddenly appear red instead of blue.

 Don't shoot me if you don't like it :p ! I haven't played the game yet. It's still on my shelf. I just ran through the Final Fantasy demo, and finished all the Pixel Junky Monster levels last night. Should be able to start sometime today.

Polite reminder, discussing the fallibility of reviews and scores is OT and pointless. Refer to them, but don't argue about how wrong they are, only that you agree or disagree.

... actually, which is why I much favor forumite reviews these days. I can interact with them directly to find out the reasons behind their views.

On the other hand, magazine reviews are pretty much one-sided and, touch and go these days. Sometimes drilling down may cause a mayhem, or get the thread locked by the mods. While I find betas and demoes generally lacking, at least they give me a chance to validate the reviewers claim.

I just started on inFamous. Let's see how close the demo is to the real game. I will also find the zoom/sniper view that obonicus mentioned.

What do you get when you become evil ? Different weapons ?

If it's not rewarding, then yes you should feel bad.

I've made it to The Warren (island 2) having cleaned out The Neon (island 1), although random baddies continue to spawn there in small numbers. I'm liking the increase in difficulty in The Warren; the Dustmen are considerably tougher than the Reapers and even the buildings - if the prison is anything to go by - represent a more interesting navigation challenge. The story, particularly that told through the dead drops and TV, is developing nicely.

The only thing that is bugging me and it's a real minor thing, is that the citizens of Empire City are amazingly dumb. When an onslaught of baddies appears throwing bombs and firing rifles and rockets, the majority of citizens will run toward the baddies like it's some kind of street theatre to be observed, or to put it another way: like moths to zapper. Sometimes, I want to serve up some carnage on the baddies asses, I want to throw half dozen cars at them and lighting grenade the whole street back to the stone age but you just can't because the moths all rush in only to be wiped out.

I know the good side side is all about measured control, restraint and precision, but sometimes it's just nice to go nuts. Roll on play through 2 :)
