Digi, 9 AM EST I guess :)
Thanks Volt and all else. :)

Hmmm, is that Chicago time? (Yes, I suck with timezones...I got enough trouble trying to keep track of what bloody day it is half the time! )

I think that Chicago's CST, making that 8AM for you. (You crazy people, living in the past. EST is the future!)

Did anyon else see the 48-1 losssless compression ratio for the z-buffer claim?

BS? perhaps only possible with 8x8 MSAA'ing turned on.

As for texture comression, I thought VQ never caught on because it took years to compress the textures, which was a pain for developers. Even though it was quicker to read and uncompress the VQ texture than reading the uncompressed variant, faster than uncompressing S3TC and offered better compression ratios at higher quality levels.

But S3TC could be forced in the drivers so you needed no application support.

Yknow, have to say I know several folks @ ATI that have worked on the launch of this product... shame one dumbass merchant had to jump the gun and doesn't have enough integrity to honor the product terms.

True, but I don't think it really hurt ATi. It just gave us all a lot to argue about and get hyped up for the real launch on Tuesday. :)

Besides, I find it telling that ATi was able to keep as much secret for as long as they can. You can't do that with just threats, you need some goodwill for people to do that. 8)

I'm pretty sure it would've pissed Patti off as she was telling me this is exactly what she didn't want to see before the NDA's go up!

Oh man, I sure hope not! :(

I like Patti, she's good people and has always been exceptionally kind and curteous to me. I'd have taken down my story about it if'n I had known it would make Patti pissed!

(I'm serious, I would have. That's not discriminating 'cause I like ATi, that's discriminating 'cause I like Patti and would have done it in a heartbeat had I known. :( )

Damn it, I KNEW I should have contacted them first on this and let them know...I KNEW it!

But no, it was a super-juicy story and I just HAD to post it up. :(

Damn it, now I'm feeling all lousy inside. :?

Time to re-examine some priorities I guess.

ATI did this to Apple a few years ago. I think they gave specs away for the new iMac or Power G4. That's one reason why now that Macs have ATI and Nvidia chips in them now instead of just ATI's as Jobs was not happy about.

That s ridiculous. You are not basing your business on things like that.

I said one reason why they are now using both. I remember that there were a lot of press reports saying about how mad Jobs was with ATI and shortly after that they introduced Nvidia graphic cards.

I dunno, the conspiracy theorist in me prefers to think that egomaniacal idiots do occassional do that with their huge corporations.

Hell, I probably would.

And Steve as well.

I've been on their side of the fence. They've done such a good job keeping a lid on things, it's just sucks that it gets blown due to a merchant. Especially after all the planning. Takes some of the steam out of the launch.

How much you want to bet AllStarShop is either in the doghouse or ATI's lawyers are sending them a nicely phrased letter.

Oh come now, Dave. For weeks now the specs have been leaking like the Titanic right here on B3D. 16-pipe architecture with the ability to deactivate quads, extreme pipelines, full FP precision, lack of SM3.0 support and most recently temporal antialiasing have hardly been a secret. Seriously, who is going to visit that allstarshop page who hasn't already read page after page of "unofficial", though obviously reliable, info on R420 right here on these boards. The only surprising discovery was the price, and that's probably not representative of other vendors. Note that I am not complaining in any way, it's just that I think it would be a bit hypocritical to say that this vendor is responsible for whatever has leaked about R420 before its launch. ;)

What exactly was revealed by that leak we didn't already know from rumors tho? 12 pipes, "8 extreme pipes" (per earlier rumors), 500Mhz, no SM3.0, 3dc, etc

Only thing that really surprised me was price.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings none, their prices are insane.

Also, if they have a higher price than ATi's MSRP than they really HAVE done ATi a disservice as I've heard nothing but complaints about a $500 mid-end card and how no one will pay $600 for an XT. :(
