Reading between the lines of the trading update and the presentation accompanying the latest results IMG does not expect to earn any money from PC PVR chips in the near future, we are getting to the point where we are going to have to say goodbye to another generation of PVR without seeing it in silicon.

We are likely to see it in silicon, in the SEGA N@omi 3 arcade board.
Won't be a PC chip, but the tech will be used, contrarily to S4.

Do companies actually earn anything from high end offerings in the PC space anyway?

Directly? Not so much. But it certainly increases your visability and improves your reputation which should trickle down to the segments where you DO make real profit. (Provide those segments exist and are equally good by comparison.)

W/o being sure I don't think there's a full product line planned (at least for now) and hence my comment.

You do have a point though, yet it rather has to do with how IMG's IP politics in general and the re-use of IP sollutions in multiple alternative markets (IMHO).

Judging from the last B3D newsblurb and the somewhat new approaches or possibilities (genuine yet kind of "weird") to bring it to the market, it doesn't sound to me like any worth mentioning direct profit or even income at all for the beginning.

In a speculative scenario where let's say a board vendor should get attracted to take on mass production and pay royalties back to IMG for units sold, then if I speculate even deeper I don't see massive high end units being sold nor any profit made in the first period either.

Personally I thought that the fund raisings and the analyst meeting would be a landmark or some sort of deadline; all I can see though is killing silence again.
