The medium prevents the practice of completely slamming songs to the max when bring mixed Ie. Loudness Wars. So as a by product of this, vinyl versions can actually sound better..
True. The RIAA filter boosts the bass end of the spectrum by 20 dB (and dampens the high frequency end), which ensures good old fashioned rock and roll + dance music actually has a beat when you turn up the volume,
That has more to do with production/mastering than the physical merits of the medium though.
Whenever you have the choice of an original CD and a digitally remastered one, always get the original. The digitally remasterd one has just been through a multi-band volume compressor.
