Playstation 3 e3 thread 4

Bloody hell that's a lot of posts. 20 pages or more for each of those threads. Funny thing is that the total amount of information that was actually exchanged could fill maybe 2 pages in one thread...

Thanks again!

No problem. The ps3 thread was really moving because of all the info released . Nintendo is kinda dead at this e3 and ms showed most of the intresting stuff last week . So its good to see sony get its time

It just 'clicked' that the 3 ethernet ports and broadband connection of the PS3 could make the PS3 act like an integrated switch/router...

This would fit nicely with the rumoured peer-to-peer distributed computing aspects of PS3 and CELL... 8)

It's a bit wierd though. Why 3? Two would be enough to act as router. I can't really see any reason why I would want to bother with 3 connections unless you wanted to hook up 4 PS3s together and have a dedicated connection between each one.

Well, now that I think about it, maybe that *is* the reason?

mckmas8808, lets hope so but unlike many I will beleive it when I see it. With the specs of the 360 and PS3 I think further into the life cycle of these consoles we will see games with this definition.

I'd say around the second generation of games we will see KZ quailty in games real-time. Look at the getaway demo. That was all done on a non-complete Cell chip with no GPU. The Unreal demo was made in 2 months, didn't even use the cell chip at all, and Epic said that the GPU wasn't even finished. Imagne when the cell and Nvidia GPU is finished and games have been out for a full year. If your honest with yourself and think about it, it can easily be done around 2nd gen. IMHO

I've just seen that London demo. Very impressive, but I don't recall it being Cell only, though it was in the 'power of Cell' section of the game. If it was Cell only

It wasn't cell only...
The only thing that was Cell only was that terrain demo, which used 2 Cells.

I think it really was Cell only. The extremly bright areas where clearly much worse than everything that was done with the RSX as if the precision of brightness calculations was low. However, the rest looked extremly impressive.

Sorry Dr. Evil is was cell only (well mostly cell)

Was most of what we saw really just showing off the graphics capabilities - stretching the RSX graphics part rather than the Cell chip? The assumption is that Cell is there for complex physics and AI...

You're right; obviously Cell allows you to do complex collisions, physics, dynamics, simulations, all of those things. Though, the Getaway demo was a good example of how you can have a living city brought to life as a result. Although it was pretty graphics, most of that power was actually Cell-based.
This is from the interview that Phil (a SCEE rep) said.

I hate to change the subject but can anybody explain this to me.

Also, they were suggesting that the ps3 will let you have remote devices connected by network that will allow you to play on more than one tv with only one game console. I have 4 TVs in my house, how cool would it be to play against other people in the same house without having to layout bundle of cash for 4 machines and 4 copies of a the game

For some reason I can't seem to visualize what the person is trying to get across in real world terms

Well there is quite a big difference if it's "mostly", besides I think he meant that all the impressive parts about that demo was due to cell, but that's whole different ball game.

Well what I'm trying to get across really is, when SCEE actually makes the real Getaway Next-Gen game it will look WAY better than what we were shown. I mean it won't even be close. If you just sit back and watch the video with no sound you it really seems like if could have been a real city.

This is what next-gen gaming truly will excel best. Not only are the graphics going to look good, but the possiblity of making the game more believable. That Getaway demo looks very very believable. The atmosphere of the demo is just plain amazing. Seeing people read newspapers on corner, walking around as if they really are going somewhere (something that GTA games can't do now, they just have a look like they are walking nowhere). That demo made me believe that it was real.

Whenever the next Getaway game comes out, I'm going to buy it I don't care how the gameplay is. If the gameplay sucks then at least I can walk around a beuitiful city.
