Phil Harrison Resigns?

Just wanted to add this as a rumor change:

UPDATE: There was some confusion previously over Atari Inc and the Infogrames companies, which are not the same entity. David Pearce was the former CEO of Atari Inc, while David Gardner replaced Patrick Leleu at Infogrames. It is Infogrames that is the possible destination for Mr Harrison, not Atari Inc. GamesIndustry.biz would like to apologise for any confusion arising from this.

He's been at Sony for 15 years, managing. But his roots are in game development. It's not unreasonable to think a part of him has been watching the novel games being developed and Phil wishing he was in at the 'ground floor' again, involved in designing games rather than just funding them. No reason to be suspicious yet, IMO.

Wouldn't it make more sense if he went to work at a Sony studio then (like the ones that make singstar/eyetoy,...) rather than a third party dev if he wanted to go back to game development?

The studios that make those games were run by him (they are owned by Sony).

I know that, that's why I said "at a Sony studio like...". If he wanted to be part of developing casual games why then not in his own company? The european devs are pretty good at those casual games.

GamesIndustry.biz stated yesterday that the whole Atari thing was a **** up & they meant to speculate that Phil maybe moving to Infogrames..

Infogrammes is Atari, at least it was when the name was passed on. Maybe Atari is something else now, but when they mentioned Atari I was thinking of Infogrames.

The two weren't actually merged, or something like that. They are two separate entities headed by separate people, and Phil was supposed to be going to work for the Infogrames bit.

My Opinion.
...
Casual gaming with low graphical detail was a popular idea that SCEI didn't seem to support.
Personally I would love to see more effort be placed on smooth lines, instead of high detail.
The main reason for the cost of development jumping has to do with art asset creation.

Im glad SCEI doesnt want to focus on low graphical detail, thats what psp and other handheld devices can shine at.

As for more AA in trade off of detailed rich environments, you'r opinion but i like my scenes and visuals well detailed and life like and not flat close to monotones in trade of smooth edges/corners

As for art asset creation, that's necessary, period.
Content is needed, you don't like to buy books with little to no interesting content do you? or see movies with a weak dull script.
If studios don't have enought time to create all they would like, give the users the ability to create content themselves, such as the good looking and detailed filled with lots art assets Little Big Plannet and let the users create they'r own assets (to some extent)

And its really bad news for sony to see Phill leaving, he brought great tittles to their platform! LBP being one of'em.

I understand what you are saying.
Even story content was my focus, by making a point of not needing so much eye candy.
Like books with chapter and annotated pictures, instead of graphic novels.

Little Big Planet is very intriguing.
The story of who it was that found them on the show floor is unknown to me.
I only suspect one person on a showroom brought it to others at Sony.
It would be neat to know just who it was that signed these three original authors of LBP.

Atari has confirmed that Phil Harrison has joined mother-company Infogrames as president, working beside new CEO David Gardner.

[snip]

Gardner said: "I am pleased to welcome Phil to Infogrames. He has an outstanding reputation in the industry, as one of the key leaders behind the success of PlayStation. We have been seeking an opportunity to work together for some time and I am certain he will be able to make a significant contribution to the publishing strategy of the Group.

Jesus Christ!!

Hell I am sure I can be employed by MS 1000000000.......00000 times then

OMG now im understand behavior of some xbox fanboys:oops:

(im shocked! He seens or remember me "All" of tv series Married with childrens... )

Why was the guy so happy anyway? Is the clip from the Xbox 1 unvealing or something?

I believe it was a conference/assembly held for MS associates or employees. It was during the pre-launch time of the 360. Much of the exaggerated ordeal would have been considerably better focused for adolescents. Though one cannot deny the ridiculous nature of screaming "Give it up for me" and a dancing fat man regardless of its origins.

It had nothing to do with XBOX (1 or 360). It was just an internal convention at Microsofts 25th anniversary with Steve Ballmer going nuts ("I... Love... This.... Company...")

I would love to see that level of enthusiasm in my boss.

Cheers
