PGR 3 - Pictures and Framebuffer Discussion

If true its kinda funny, all this talk of HD and their flagship game is not true HD, not even close.

Actually 1024x600 is pretty close to HD. But regardless, the signal the 360 is outputting to your TV is 720p. So what's the big deal?

Edit: And yes we've already discussed this in the thread JVD linked to ;)

it's not funny, it's sad. countless amount of gamedevs' hard work for next gen has been, is, and will be wasted due to sheer merketodronez stupidity. it took MS a generation of consoles to learn how to make them, it will take them at least another one to learn how to use them*.

* and that's habitual for them - it's been like that with everything they ever made - somewhere past the the 3rd or 4th product iteration they apper to start grasping the idea.

The ironic thing, IMO, is that 1024x600 with 2x AA upscaled to 1280x720 probably looks better than 1280x720 with no AA.

doesn't pgr3 use 4x fsaa ? haven't been following the game much
I thought the whole point of 1024x600 was that it at 2x MSAA would still fit in the eDRAM. It is just speculation, of course. I'm pretty sure neither Bizarre nor MS have gone on record about the number of samples per pixel PGR3 renders to.

I dunno as i said i didn't follow it much , I thought pgr 3 was 60fps 4 x fsaa ?

Eh anyway

These are launch games , and this news is coming off evaluation kits that could for all we know have bugs .

I will wait til lthe final copys are in reviewers hands and see what they say , sites like ign , gamespot and others

I believe that came from one unconfirmed source. In other words, it's near baseless.

And yeah, we're so close there's no point in anything but waiting till they review the game.

CoD2 is also rendered at something less than 720p, at least the 360 display demo is. I'm not sure exactly what resolution it is but going back and forth between that and the Kameo demo it is obvious that CoD2 is upscaled, and neither of the two had any FSAA. I wonder how many games don't meet MS's supposed requirements of 720p with AA.

Isnt all that matters the fidelity of the end product?

For months now everyone (mostly) has ben saying how next-gen and great PGR3 looks and now because it might be rendered at less than 720P internally that suddenly makes it less impressive?:???:

I could care less if i is rendered internally at 320 X200 as long as it looks sharp and runs smooth in 720P on my display. It just seems so silly...

Now if new movies or the final build looks alot less impressive than the media we have been seeing, then we have a problem.

That is the problem, the video and screenshots we have been seeing are mostly jazzed up with extra AA, AF, resolution or often all 3. Granted, that is standard practice in the game industry and there is no reason to expect that to change this generation, but MS did pretty much insist to us that we would be getting at 1280x720 with at least some AA on everything, and now we are finding that this is not nearly the case.

The videos we have seen on Xboxyde and the like shot on a camcorder using final X360 hardware arent jazzed up or anything of the sort. It is pure gameplay footage from a close to final build that was running smooth.

Now why would it suddenly take a huge nose-dive in visual quality when it was apparently just fine?:???:

yeah we have seen a lot of videos with actuall gameplay not only screenshots !! and the game was looking very good ..strange :???:

Master-Mold, how would you or anyone make any reasonable guess at fedility from camcorder videos? I'm not talking about those, I'm talking about stuff like this:

Some of those camcorder videos by Blim Blim have been very good quality. Quite a few times they look better than smaller resolution direct capture videos done by gaming sites.

One video in particular where a player zoomed over the Brooklyn Bridge into New York was superb and gave me a good idea what to expect.

ok so going nextgen is a jump from static-blurry textures to motion-blurry textures. :)
Yeah, that's what bothered me about NFSMW when I played it at IGN Live. The textures looked all blurry and low res, until the car slowed to a stop. That's why I'm interested in RR6. They have motion blur, but you can still make out the texture detail and at 60fps.
