Perfect Dark Zero: On the path to gaming glory?

After reading up on Perfect Dark Zero, I have renewed faith this could turn out to be a killer game.

The levels morph into either bigger or smaller size depending on how many people are playing. Nothing sucks more than being on a huge map with only a handful of people playing, so I think this is a really cool feature.

You can perform a doge roll by pressing the right shoulder button and pressing the control stick at the same time. When performed you leave the first person perspective and see the action from a 3rd person view. I guess it returns to 1st person once the roll manuver is completed.

When you lean up against a wall, your view changes to a 3rd person view. I guess this makes it easier to ambush a person coming around a corner with a melee based attack.

When you crouch and fire a gun you get a 3rd person over the shoulder view to make it easier to get a good shot on your enemies I suppose.

A detailed damage system. Armor takes damage and will degrade and fall off as it takes hits. Some weapons won't penetrate your armor while some will penetrate and cause damage to you at the same time. "Shock damage" will be inflicted from falling from a building and melee damage. "Shock Damage" recovers as time passes. "Shock Damage" to me sounds like some sort of stun damage to go along with lethal damage dealt by firearms.

A total arsenel of 28 different weapons in the game with each having a secondary fire ability. Secondary fire abilities like cloaking and x-ray vision are on tap.

3 vehicles. A jet-pack, motorcycle, and a hovercraft.

The ability to climb small ledges.

The ability to steal an enemies weapon from their hands.

Mutiple spawn points to choose from. Spawn points are teleporters which can be reprogramed to only work for your team.

There is plenty more

*Visually rock solid with textures on walls, objects, vehicles and floors that put halo 2 to shame.
*Game was not up on final hardware, expect a LOT of visual improvements.

*Vehicles - Such as motorbikes, jetpacks, and carriers and the ability to repair vehicles
*Secret Mode - Dark OPs - OBjective based games
*Spawn - In area full of weapons, you tooled up and then jump into the map

Well gee, I certainly hope all next gen games will do the same.

The armour system sounds interesting. So basically, if the specific armour gets hit and doesn't penetrate, you won't get hurt, and the armour value reduces, and if it does penetrate, both armour and health decrease :?: And it sounds like the armour is location based as well..

The morphing levels...well it seems like it just closes off sections depending on the number of people, like connecting several maps together, but having dynamically locking doors in between, but you start in the same area. Or is it that the level moves with the group of players as they move through the level? (Think of it like the holodeck in Star Trek where the room is fixed, but all people have to be within a certain distance between one another in order for them to move further in the environment.)

I wonder if they mean small objects like rocks. ;) I wouldn't put it past them to say this silly little detail if they already say that the texture detail will be an improvement over Halo 2.

how can a next gen's textures be compared to halo2? :O it should pust half life 2 to shame :p..

I hope their won't be any framedrops like the N64 4-player multiplayer with all bots enabled... (what was it, between 5 and 15fps? )

I want bots too dammit! :)

According to the Gamespot preview, They were targeting 30fps overall including splitscreen 4 player. There would be bots as well.

edit:

The first thing we noticed when the multiplayer demo got under way was just how customizable the game will be, with options that will allow you to change the bot count, bot difficulty, points limit, spawn type, base configuration, and weapon types.

In the final game, Rare is shooting for a solid 30 frames per second, whether you're playing solo or with three other players on the same screen.

Bots are definatley in the game from what I've read.

Every online player will have a different model. The highest ranking player on your team will get the honor of the Joanna Dark model. Does this mean two Jonna Dark models will exist in the game at one time? One red and the other green? The ability to see how good a player is by recognizing their model intresting. If you see Joanna, you know thats a highly skilled player.

You might have the ability to use the camera to scan your face onto your player model.

Microsoft claimed the multiplayer gameplay that was shown was running off of code that was 2 months old and running on alpha hardware kits.

Dont forget that behind closed doors they showed PD0, CoD2 and others games and jornalists said that they looked a lot better...

Dont ask me why...

were they under NDA or something, thus not allowed to take photographs of the tv while the games were played?

don't know abotu nda, although i wouldn't put it past microsoft to have them sign one upon entering the room

they definately weren't allowed to take pictures though.

there are however some exclusive new screenshots at teamxbox that have just been released - some look good, others look okay, and one looks rubbish (imo). the parallax mapping does look awesome... i can see why people were impressed by that.

however, the ones that look less impressive are just high res shots of the old screenshots we already had - so it's obviously not from a more recent build.

i think microsoft/rare should just not release any media on it until it's ready to show - they know it was poorly recieved and they should just keep it under wraps then blow everyone away when they finally reveal it... showing incrementally imrpoving screen shots every few weeks isn't the best strategy in my opinion

i'm still somewhat disappointed in her hair for one... that is not next gen hair.. :?

I think the game will look great but it wont be an gears of war graphics killer .

IF they can provide 50+ multiplayer with steady fps with half life 2 (with a high end gpu graphics ) at launch it will be more than enough .

isnt this game a bit overhyped?

apart from the nintendofans, who actually played the first on n64 and why should we care?
