Panajev, report please :)

just wondering what you have learned, discovered, thought of, etc. about PlayStation3 (and PSP) over the last month or so. the year is rapidly coming to a close. what's the 'next stop' on the PS3 roadmap? i would guess it would be the introduction of those Cell workstations at the end of the year (calander or fiscal, i forget)........

it would be good to hear your latest thoughts man :)

I have this sneaky suspicions that the 1 or 2 devs who have seen some actual PS3 details, but under NDA, lurk around secretly, reading threads like this for their own amusement while muttering "These SUCKEZ ARE TEH STUPIDZ!".

OK, with that public acknowledgement, we may commence without fear of ridicule.

calander or fiscal, i forget
Their timeline powerpoint slide seems to indicate end of FY '04.

Actually following Koei's recent 'Oni' announcement, I think we can safely assume that the big dev studios such as Koei, Konami, Square-Enix, etc. have already received some official specs and details.

Unrelated... ok, slight relation tech-wise. Check out this article about Sun's Niagara.

MegaDrive: a big fat nothing :( (as far as news are concerned).

Yes, the CELL WorkStation is the next step that we should see before the PlayStation 3 premiere.

Dang. thought there might be somethin' ah well. the waiting game continues. it won't be toooo long. just a matter of months til that premiere. right now it is like late 1998 when we didn't know many specifics on PS2.....although the internet has made us more aware of whats going on that even those few years ago.....

Seems like the basic patent had been updated several times so far (now its publication date is 2004-10-26).

BTW, is this patent (CROSSBAR SWITCH, METHOD AND PROGRAM FOR CONTROLLING OPERATION THEREOF) already on this board? The first drawing of it shows 'PIXEL PIPELINE PROCESSOR', so it must be a GPU-related thing, if not sure of which, PS3 or PSP.

CROSSBAR SWITCH, METHOD AND PROGRAM FOR CONTROLLING OPERATION THEREOF

Patent number: WO2004086242
Publication date: 2004-10-07
Inventor: OHTO TOMOHIRO; NAOI JUNICHI
Applicant: SONY COMP ENTERTAINMENT INC (JP)
Classification:
- international: G06F13/40; G06F15/173; H04L12/56
- european: H04L12/56E1
Application number: WO2004JP03497 20040316
Priority number(s): JP20030081258 20030324

Abstract of WO2004086242
A small cost-effective crossbar switch is provided. A switch circuit is disposed in each of a plurality of nodes which are cascade connected with each other in a plurality of stages. Each switch circuit receives from a node of a previous stage a designated address to specify directly or indirectly the relative position in which a target switch circuit is present, determines whether the designated address represents a specific value "O". When it is determined that the specific value is represented, each switch circuit allows data output to an node-out line, decrements the received designated address by "1" to generate a new designated address, and supplies this new designated address to a node of the subsequent stage.

What about the graphics solution...?
There are some bizarre rumours(different from those that have been debated to death on B3D ;)), but that's all so far...

"Speak!
And if you refuse to understand that, we'll have to make you understand... "

;)

Do those rumors have anything to do with Toshiba? If yes, then details, please.

You guys are just teasing filthy whores!...Unless you are under an NDA, you are under contract to spill the beans on B3D I tell ya! ;)

How bizaar can bizaar be...

Like, licensing tech from one of Nvidia/ATI/whoever, but of course doing all the fab work all by themselves...

OR...

Unholy, unbelievable amount of EDRAM for the new GS...

I have little doubt Sony has something interesting up its sleeve for PS3's GPU, in some area. no sense in trying to pry it out of the ppl who know something, we'll find out soon enough.

i'm just hoping for a large improvement in image quality and overall rendering, something that brings Playstation graphics into the 21st century (that's not being critical since PS2 was built in the mid to late 90s)
