If true, it must be something MS and Sony have come to decide together. There's no way one would go out on a limb and destroy their 2nd hand market while the other doesn't. I expect a pact made within the industry and there won't be AAA disk games made for any platform that doesn't follow the publishers requirements. If true then expect this to be unanimous across both PS4 and Durango.
No wonder the EA CEO was expressing his excitement over the coming next-gen consoles.

I guess I've been behind the speculation front of the new consoles, but one of the biggest selling points of using optical media is the idea of being able to take your game to your friends house and play the game there too. IMO - this is just insane...
That's very likely. Means you can take you disc round a friend's house and still play the game.More likely the games will be linked to accounts not the the console itself.

Having just read the article, I'm slightly sceptical. It requires an always-on internet connection. That's a significant requirement IMO. Yes, it can be expected this day and age, but it's also creating barriers to convenience.
Gamestop CEO is less enthused however...No wonder the EA CEO was expressing his excitement over the coming next-gen consoles.

Also with no used market to worry about finally dev & publishers won't have to ask us that much for games.
When 100% of you customers buy the game new (buying games new is the only way to get revenue for dev and publishers) you can ask them to pay less becse the revenue is 100% guaranteed.
And also no more online passes and games will finally be profitable even without DLC.
How much less is the question. I would hope at least 49.99 becomes the norm, and then with more deals for downloadable versions too.
The rumored Sony solution would be smarter than just codes and would work offline. It could also be limited to work on two consoles like PSN games to allow private use
Sony could provide equipment to gamestop that will allow them to take a cut from every sale
Exactly.

Maybe you're right, but I don't see the difference between agreeing on DRM for films and music, and agreeing on DRM for games. But as Hecatoncheireshttp://forum.beyond3d.com/member.php?u=88535 points out, it's potentially legally enforceable to allow resale of all 2nd hand games, but AFAIK Sony and MS have been forced to enable this as Steam were. Quite the opposite, Sony have added a 2nd hand relicensing option for publishers. That would be collusion...they would be risking legal action.
