NVIDIA Tegra Architecture

They are selling the phone for $327. That's really low. I understand that they make money by selling software, but can you go into more detail? Exactly what kind of things do they sell and at what prices? Are they profitable or are they still in land grab mode?
Xiaomi take some percentage on every software sold in their app store. They are now profitable:
Xiaomi Corp., the smartphone maker that outsells Apple Inc. (AAPL) in China, has turned profitable for the first time as market-share gains put the company on pace to almost triple handset sales this year.
Sales in the first half more than doubled to 13.2 billion yuan ($2.16 billion), and may rise to 28 billion yuan for the full year, from 12.6 billion yuan for all of last year, President Bin Lin said in an interview at the company’s headquarters in Beijing yesterday. Handset sales may jump to 20 million units, from 7.19 million last year, he said. He didn’t supply a figure for profit.

Wasn't Meizu the classic Apple imitator? :p

Yes, the Meizu MX is the only android phone with a circular button in the bottom and the exact same 3:2 resolution as the iphone 4/4S.

The Xiaomi are as similar to the iphone as any other rectangular smartphone with round edges and a rectangular screen.

I was speaking more specifically about MIUI as particularly opposed to the hardware as the MIUI launcher is similar in function to iOS with no app draw.

However, there have been various articles such as this comparing Xiaomi and Apple:

Perhaps to be expected as pretty much everything in the smartphone world ends up being compared to Apple in one manner or another.

That said, if you read the Xiaomi wikipedia page, it's pretty obvious that it has been written by big fans of Apple!

Personally, I'm just a little disappointed that the Xiaomi TV is unlikely to become available in the UK. I could do with a new TV before too long and it looks to be well-specified and cheap! A pretty powerful chipset to start off with as well though I suppose software support will decide how useful the 'smart' aspects of it are.

Another T4 HP slate and review of Asus TF701T

Tegra 4 powered HP Slate 8 Pro appears on GFX Bench

http://www.androidauthority.com/tegra-4-hp-slate-8-pro-255898

Just yesterday, a new unknown device, simply called the HP “Bodhi”, appeared on GFX Bench’s list of result. The Tegra 4 powered device put in a decent performance, as you’d expect from something powered by Nvidia’s latest mobile graphics technology, but it was a bit of a mystery device. Fortunately, the device’s name has now been changed, suggesting that it’s a new tablet from HP called the Slate 8 Pro.

+1
and I would like to add that the Xiaomi MI3 is a HUGE design win for NVDA. People don't realize how big this deal is. Offered on China Mobile, the world largest carrier with 740M users (and only 100M on 3G), it's an even bigger design win than the Nexus 7. In fact, its a home-run that will put T4 on track to beat T3 quantities !

PS: Number of users in China by carrier (as of July 2013):
China Mobile : 740M
China Unicom: 262M
China Telecom: 175M

Numbers or not everything.

With average salary in China being about $500 per month, we are talking here entirely different market dynamics.

I'll go on a limp and say that it would not surprise me if someday (not anytime soon) nVIDIA would present their own OS as well.

CPU and GPU tech - check!
Hardware (Shield + Tegra Note) - check!
CUDA to leverage GPU computing power - check!

I was totally not surprised with Shield either, since I even wrote an article mock-up for a website writer's application. I just called it Tegra Max, instead of Shield :D
It looks a very natural progression of nVIDIA to me, given the constraints of the market they are entering.

Tegra Note, another sign that Nvidia can't find takers for the Tegra4?
again this question ?
HP, Vizio, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, ZTE, Microsoft Surface RT2, and Xiaomi are all good deals, especially the last one that is even bigger than last year Nexus 7 with T3...

You clearly don't know the Chinese market.
what about buying a phone at a shop and paying ZERO up front with a 2 years contract ? This is what I did for the Mi2 that I bought for my wife and this is the kind of deal that the 3 Chinese operators will offer on Mi3...

Are you sure you'll want a tablet with a 4:3 ratio?

My gf had one (archos G8) and she's so much better now with a Note 8. In no small part due to the form factor.

well it was my first though, but looking at the pictures, the slate 8 pro doesn't look wider than the note 8 and its large bezel

With those screen sizes, 4:3 is actually really good. The one reason why really I like the iPad – great for reading textbooks.

I'd say just as good as 16:10, but watching videos in the current 16:9 norm is a no go.
