Now, with the 2.0.44 update to its PC and Mac apps, Priority subscribers will be able to enable 5.1 surround and RTX 3080 subscribers will be able to use 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.
That makes GeForce Now the first service to offer more than just stereo. It also signals a welcome move to improve sound quality for the service, offering more than just faster, higher-resolution graphics -- it'll be the first service to make this offer.

Coming to the share, NVIDIA GPUs increased from 75% to 80% which means they retained their position from the previous year (Q2 2021), AMD saw a slight decline from 24% to 20% while Intel has started to show up in the charts too with a 1% market share for now. The blue team is still in its infancy in the dGPU market compared to NVIDIA & AMD who have several decades' worth of experience in the segment.
...
AMD’s quarter-to-quarter total desktop AIB unit shipments decreased -by 34.0% and decreased by -5.0% from last year.
Nvidia’s quarter-to-quarter unit shipments decreased -by 19.1% and increased by 3.0% from last year. Nvidia continues to hold a dominant market share position at 79.6%.

This is being discussed in two threads, but when NVIDIA produces only discrete products (in categories JPR counts) and their shipments drop 25.7%, how can they suddenly drop only 19% when counting only discrete products (which were the only ones counted in the first place)

The other thread are responses to your original post on total gpu market share, so best keep the discussion there.

The post here simply highlights Nvidia's discrete market share numbers.

They count add-in boards, not discrete GPUs. For laptops that only includes MXM GPUs which is a miniscule fraction of the market

MXM hasn't existed for years in any capacity, surely they can't count it and call it counting notebook GPUs

However, based on reports from Chinese financial outlets, it looks like NVIDIA will be giving a buffer period in which it could still supply and meet the demand of its customers in China. As per Money UDN, it is reported that this buffer period will only last till next year after which NVIDIA cannot sell its Ampere A100 and Hopper H100 GPUs in China. An alternative will be provided in the form of older or lower-end GPUs but the higher-end chips won't make their way to China.

H100, A100 and HGX stations on top of the GPUs themselves. The ban also includes AMDs MI250 and possibly MI200.
I meant what "older or lower-end GPUs" would they be able to sell after the ban will become active? These should be made on 16nm at least as I understand which puts it on Pascal (Volta/Turing?) generation - does Nvidia even make these still?

I'd guess anything used in supercomputers need to be at least ready to quick resuming production as long as said computer is in active use. They're too expensive to go out of comission because you can't source replacement parts for failing hardware.

I'm not talking about their hardware, but as a company nVidia has always and will always suck!
The whole GPU market is fucked from lack of competition, and I suppose this may never change. Even Intel is finding it impossible to enter given the decades of games and APIs made to run well only on NVIDIA and AMD hardware. Maybe Vulkan and DX12 will change this, but I'm sure IHV optimization will never go away, and who is going to optimize for a GPU that nobody has because nobody buys it because no games are optimized for it.

We should be grateful NVIDIA is even offering a 4000 series card for less than $1000. The $900 RTX4060 RTX4080 12GB.

If its that doom and gloom, then yeah, there will be no more consoles, GPUs and everything streaming then. Cause its unlikely AMD will compete or offer better prices for their GPUs. Imagine what chip prices will look like 10 years from now.
