Really, abundantly clear? How soCould somebody please explain me why Charlie keeps insisting it's *both* G86 and G84, when it's abudantly clear it's only G86 but for both notebooks and desktops?

Yeah, but he'll run with it anyways...that's why I lovers him so!Well thats why Charlie is stupid, or should I say over zealous in his accusations. He thinks he has information which he can't even reproduce in full.

He can be humorous, but that is about it. I find his articles fairly pathetic since they rely on being sensational instead of content to garner attention.
Could somebody please explain me why Charlie keeps insisting it's *both* G86 and G84, when it's abudantly clear it's only G86 but for both notebooks and desktops? (of course, for a wide variety of reasons it's much much less of a problem on the latter and the failure rate should be massively lower, although nearly certainly still higher than normal)
No different from Huang whining about Intel bullying. That said though, it doesn't take a qualified shrink to see Charlie has other issues.
I don't think it's quite so clear cut when there are laptops that have G84 in it on the extended warranty list (such as Dell XPS M1330). That can't be just goodwill.
There is some overlap such as the Dell XPS M1530 can be configured with either a 8400M (G86M) or a 8600M (G84M), which is likely what is actually leading to people concluding more than G86M is bad.
Confusion over which model and codename is really hurting this thread. The G86M covers the 8400M model series, G84M covers the 8600M series. Confusing to say the least, but that is indeed the case. From what I can find the extended-GPU-only warranties only cover notebook series which could be configured to have a G86M GPU aka 8400M series. Somebody really, really needs to be fired for coming up with that naming scheme!
To make matters worse, Nvidia has a mound of unsold defective parts that they are going to bleed out into the channel along side of the (hopefully) fixed parts. As a buyer, you have no way of knowing which one you are getting, and it looks like Nvidia isn't keen on helping you figure it out either, that would cost too much.
