Well, if Fudzilla is right about pricing, then my estimates were pretty accurate.

and i am dead wrong; i said $650 for the GTX280's top card
.. but i am SO happy to be wrong that nvidia may be responding to our weak economy [and also to AMD]; a good move! [imo]

SLi becomes affordable if so:

Wasn't GT200 recognition already added to GPU-Z quite some time ago? Just makes me guess how old these shots might be, if they're real.

Guess I should get ready to order a GTX260 then.
They should fit in the 300-350e price segment... which is what I'm willing to pay for an upgrade, assuming performance is worthwhile.

Santa Clara (CA) – A few weeks ago, we learned about a technology that was fascinating simply because of the fact how current technology advances have an impact not just on how we use computers, but how they improve our life. In this case it was TechniScan Medical Systems' GPU-assisted UltraSoundCT scanner, which may replace mammograms one day and can provide much more detailed breast scans than traditional mammograms already today. We came across a few more details how the technology involved and decided to share those with our readers.

I kinda more expect prices to raise very quickly rather than fall off. They're more than likely going to announce at a more reasonable price, keep that price around for a week or so (although it'll stay as the official MSRP) and then pull the same argument they do every time, claiming that supply is limited so you have to pay 100-200$ more than the MSRP.

This is 300% speculative minimum, but I suspect part of the reason is the shipping method. Often hard launches are made possible by using more expensive shipping, but given the price pressure from RV770 I don't think either they or their partners can afford that this time around for the GTX 260. Plus, a price premium charged for that time advantage (as in the 8800GT's case) could become very negative publicity in this competitive context.

Just got my copy of PC Gamer, and they have a review of the GTX 280 1gb.

*snip*

Best I could do with the time I have.

I tried to post a scanned copy of the new PC Gamer review of the GTX 280 1gb card, so here are some of their benchmarks:

3dmark06/vantage= 16650/10639
crysis, 1600/2560= 34fps/15fps
HL2: ep1, 1600/2560= 219fps/122fps
company of heroes, 1600/2560= 58fps/42fps
world in conflict, 1600/2560= 52fps/33fps

PC Gamer also lists:

1.4 billion transistors distributed through 240 processing cores
idles at 25 watts, with a peak of 235 watts
$649.99 list price
