Nvidia BigK GK110 Kepler Speculation Thread

I guess it must be only the *very* choice reviewers who are getting cards or we'd have seen somebody jump the gun already.

Yeah, PPI for monitors could definitely use a bump, no reason for it to be as high as smartphones though. 4k would be a nice jump...

For what it's worth, I use my desktop monitors at about twice the distance of my phone.
True, but smart phones usually aren't 1080p either. And desktop monitors are generally a little bit on the low side as far as pixel viewing density goes.

Edit: The iPhone 5 is 1136x640, while the Nexus 4 is 1280x768. I don't think it's very likely that 4" smart phones will go much higher in resolution.

After the PPI explosion for handhelds, it's only a matter of time before it happens on the desktop. 4K is only the beginning. The technology is there.

Yeah I doubt 4" phones will go higher than 720p in general, but apparently the Galaxy S4 will have a 1080p display, and I think some other LG phone of the same size too. I think it will become the standard for high-end phones of this size.

Personally, I'm not asking for all that much density. I'd be happy with 2560×1600 (yes, preferably 16:10) for desktop monitors from 22 to 27 inches or so.

I sure hope you're right.

I would be highly surprised if it was higher than 720p, but we'll see. The problem is the higher resolution wouldn't help improve clarity, but it would slow performance and/or reduce battery life.

Yes, that would be nice. I'm not sure it'll happen any time soon much below 27", unfortunately, because Windows just isn't made to scale properly to higher DPI displays.

It seems to be semi-official at this point, with power-savings on top of it: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Samsung-Galaxy-S4-Screen-1080p,20435.html

But I too am skeptical that it will bring any real benefit. I don't really care either, except to the extent that it may hasten the arrival of higher-definition desktop monitors.

Let's say 25~27", then. I for one don't intend to replace my current 23" monitors with anything smaller, regardless of definition, so that would do. I think Windows could handle this relatively limited scaling. Do people still buy 22" displays, anyway?

I've heard very good things about those $300 Korean 2560x1440 IPS monitors.

Not 16x10, but the 16x9 is IMHO mostly an issue because 1080 (and 768 obviously) is so pathetic if you do anything that requires vertical space (reading, programming etc.) A real regression compared to earlier 1920x1200 monitors. Should be less of a problem with 1440.

Agreed. I heard about them too, but the problem with those Korean models is they were often a bit short on features (pivot mode, DisplayPort, etc.). For that price, of course, you can't really expect that sort of stuff, but I was hoping to see other brands follow suit with similar monitors and also bring those features, perhaps at a $100 premium or so. As far as I'm aware that has not happened yet.
