Nvidia Ampere Discussion [2020-05-14]

If we're looking at a design with essentially 4 separate types of cores that could have extremely variable utilization rates depending on the workload the question of power consumption seems like it'd be much more complicated than just a single unified FPU/ALU pipeline with much higher scenario variation.
That's what Igor's lab essentially hinted at, power delivery has been adjusted to accommodate different cores.

Yep, GP100 was the last of the 600-ish dies. GV100, TU102 and GA100 are way north of that with the two 00's larger than 800.

it seems bigger than TU117. more like TU104 size, but QR code on the package is at the different corner https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/nvidia-tu104.g854
I think those pictures are just renders and not necessarily 1:1 depictions of the real product.

Just for completeness' sake, the german press mail says "unterstützt PCI Express 4.0" (meaning supports PCIe 4.0), so this could point in the direction that it's only the PCIe 3.0 subset but on the website it's quite unconditional, no footnotes whatsoever.

MSI will have 29 different GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070 models
MSI is gearing up for a huge next few months selling graphics cards, with the company submitting 29 different SKUs to the ECC for NVIDIA's next-gen GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 graphics cards.
...
MSI has 14 x V388 models, 11 x V389 models, and 4 x V390 models -- where we should see those split into the GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 -- but we don't know which models are which. We could have 14 x custom GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards, or only 4 x custom GeForce RTX 3090 cards depending on those model numbers.

I got a bit distracted with the 3090 extended models. Is there still a 3060 model tier planned?

Yes, though launch schedule hasn't been decided. Likely we will know more next week.

From what was leaked it will likely be just three models in Sep - my guess would be 3070, 3080 and 3090.
3060 may come before the end of the year, as well as 3080Ti - if it will be needed against Navi 21.
Anything below that is a 2021 thing probably.
