Fully expect some of the most bright people hypnotizing themselves into buying a 3090 over 4080/12 because the latter is apparently a "4070" because... reasons.

I guess at 4K the 4090 should be even faster as it should be pretty CPU limited at 1440p.
24GB and more bandwith may be advantages for some people.
I think both 4080 variants are pretty underwhelming. The 12G is 15-20% faster than a 3080 for a 30% price increase 2 years later. The 16G is 50% faster for 70% more. Only the 4090 delivers. Halo parts have always been poor value but ironically the 4090 is now the highest value tier.
Console users whom are not in the market for any gpu anyway. Its like you summoned atleast one by making that comment.

This is atrocious and any sensible person can see this. This tactic of utilizing the absolute WORST possible value Ampere cards to compare to is just straight up dishonest.
You can't argue anything here anymore, Nvidia marketing has taken over completely. If Nvidia wants to call it a 4080 12Gb and price it that way, we have to accept it and praise Nvidia for bringing us these amazing products.
Well, they can pivot it any-way they want obviously. Just the idea that a '3070' is performing like a 3090Ti isnt that bad since the true 4070 and 4060 will deliver enough performance at a lower price. The stack seems to have moved up, if a 4060 is going to perform like a 3080/ti with all the added features its not going to be a problem at all i think. Its just that performance stacks have changed. It all depends on what the 4060/4070 are going to do and priced like.
its too early to call everything nasty when we only have the high end pipeline revealed (and not even released).

Ummm no. In whatever scene that Nvidia benchmark is from a 3080Ti doesn't score 251 fps. It would score around 275 applying the typical % differential.The 3080Ti scores 251fps in Overwatch 2 @1440p, which makes the 4090 score of 507fps two times faster than the 3080Ti.
