sweeet

Crackdown deserved it. H3 beta pushed me over the edge but I'm glad I made the plunge. Great Game!

Seems word-of-mouth/neighbor sales are still driving Gears.

Not only has the Wii outsold the Xbox 360 and the PS3, it again outsold the PS2. That is the trend that I am watching very closely.

I remember when Xbox 1 dropped $100 6 mos after I had purchased one at launch.... boy was I pissed! :p

:) As an early adopter, you should have already figured that in. I'm still not sure of a price drop yet. We'll see how Sony overcome this.

Pretty low number there!

(Pokes PS3)
"C'mon! DO something!"

Can't say I'm suprised. To alot of users, the machine's functions just don't justify the price. Anyone buying a PS3 right now is either whatching BluRay movies or "paying for potential".

Looking at the PS2 numbers, I'd guess this isn't sending anyone at Sony into a tizzy. If the PS3 ball isn't rolling by the time the PS2 runs out of steam, then things will be looking grim. Right now it looks more like part of the overlapping-lifecycle strategy. At this rate, the PS3 won't pass the 360 by 2010, but it will by 2014, because the 360 will have been gone for years. Meanwhile forums will froth about XBox 3 beating PS4. All the while shrugging off strong PS3 sales....

yea... I know I pay $100 extra to be the first on the block and all that but 6 mos?!

I expected a year at least.

Really?

PS2 I think will die a quick death by this time next year. The numbers show a clear trend of ps2 gen dying quicker than ps1 gen (software wise). HW purchases at this point could be people replacing old units {raises hand}, buying the system with the aim of shopping 2nd hand software, buying with the aim of "shopping" for free software, buying a 2nd console for the other room/sibling etc.

Point is software sales at retail paints a clear picture for the health of a platform as most companies (not named Nintendo) make their money on software not hardware.

oh my.... yes I forgot about that.... hit the streets on the 20th I think so that's a 9 day total

I'm pretty sure there were a lot of pre-orders to get in the Halo 3 beta. It's not like the software sold on it's own, the demo was awful IMO.

While the PS3 didn't sell well in Feb, there were no new motivation for sales, I suspect April will be much better due to the March game releases and announcements. It seems the Playstation name is still doing well, but Sony has not killed off the PS2 and it's still sailing along. Sooner or later someone will cash in and move the horde of PS2 owners to the next gen.

The problem isn't people at Sony being scared, it is the third party exclusives going "OH SHIT!". Think how Konami would feel about releasing MGS4 to 4 million consoles, or Square to 6 million...

The shocking thing is when you add up US and Japan sales and imagine what EU might be. Seems like Wii outsells the Xbox and PS3 combined, and by a large margin.

EU can save them.
I am from Europe.

Nintendo is going to win Europe. As for Sony: higher prices, no HDTVs, no games on the horizon, an entire year of bad news. They are pretty much dead. As is next gen.

I feel sorry for those developing an exclusive PS3 game. Find a way to go multiplatform. Soon.

yea, nobody expected that reason to be used here ;)

sure there were some but the consensus is... 450,000 of those people from 9 days in February would disagree, reading the threads here and on other sites. Many bought the game figuring they'd try it and get the beta and ended up loving it.

Others, like me, could not stop playing the demo and bought the game on its own merits.

This also presents a though dilemma for Sony 1st/2nd party development... release soon, and your software may not even break even; release later and the platform itself may not break even either.

Those pre-orders are counted in those nine days unless I'm missing something. You and I have no clue of how many copies would have sold with no Halo 3 pack-in. If we knew the pre-order numbers we would probably know the Halo 3 effect.

[gratuitous insult excised by mod]

I dont think PS3 sales are about the price , its about software as Phil said ... I have no doubt that second half of the year will be way better than this ; Killzone @ E3 , more games [ MGS4 , SM3 , Tekken6 ] and even a Spiderman3 Blu-ray bundle ... All of these can boost sales ...

BTW , this EDGE thing seems important ... But I dont know when we ll see effects of it [ from games side ] ...
