Nah, they've been there since the E3 case mockup last year. We've just not had that good pics of the back side before.

It isn't just you ;), but no, it isn't. The lowermost forward edge is beveled, so that when photo'd from the right angle it looks thinner, just like it is in at least one of the promo shots. If you see it from the side or straight on (disc slot side, I mean), you notice it's only an illusion.

Anyone is surprised it's got vents? :LOL: The NES had vents too you know... And the vent has been visible in previous shots as well...

Like I already explained, that's due to the camera angle. ;)

Basically, Nintendo handpicked a view custom-designed to make the Rev look as slim as possible. Compared to this one particular glory-shot (which seems to be the one most featured, as it has the revmote in it too), the Rev in the flesh looks a few months pregnant, heh. It is actually becoming in my opinion though, if it was too slim it'd just look like it would topple at any moment standing upright IMO.
