Nintendo continued to benefit from its strong position in the handheld market with its GameBoy Advance and Enterbrain President Hirokazu Hamamura said he was eagerly awaiting the company's new handheld, "Nintendo DS."

"This will be a product unlike anything available right now and it will come with a touch panel," said Hamamura, adding that Nintendo was prepared to unveil 30 "DS" titles at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles in May.

Pokemon Beige, Pokemon Teal, Pokemon Taupe, Pokemon Maroon, Pokemon Russet, Pokemon Puce...

Mind you, with the prices some virtual boy titles are going for on EBay these days, I think I'll be snapping up a DS on launch and grabbing a copy of the most obscure titles I can find - then keeping them sealed in their boxes until I can make a mint on them in a few years time...

Wibble,

ROFL!
Well, good luck on that venture, hehehe...

Personally though, I would much rather have seen Nintendo showing 30 titles for GAMECUBE at E3, but that would have been (way) too much to ask for... :(

Come now MrWibble, given those are all Nintendo titles only it's a lot either way you look at it...
I could see 20+ PSP titles shown at E3 but I'll be surprised if more then 5 of them are from Sony alone :p

I think the "unveiling" will just be a paper list of 30 games that are in development. Their might be 15 games with screenshots, and only a few actually present at the show. That's my speculation anyway, I doubt their will actually be 30 games playable at the show.

Brilliant.

nobie is on the money imo. I thought I read somewhere today that Nintendo only have a small handful of titles to physically demonstrate at E3.

30 is an awful lot for what seems like little time for development... I'm wondering if these titles are going to be converted N64 games.

If they only have to show one screenshot per game then they could show >150 games as Sony stated that 80 developers are working on PSP games and many of them not only on one. ;)

Well, Nintendo + select 2nd/3rd party devs might have been working on launch titles for quite some time. Also, nobody spends five years working on a handheld game... Dev times are shorter, for better and for worse. Mostly better though I would say. :p This might not be that much of a problem after all.

I'm wondering if these titles are going to be converted N64 games.

Wonder if any of them will be converted RARE games... :devilish:

I don't know if that's the case. We've only heard of a few japanee developers that commented on the system. But we didn't hear of any confirmed to be working on games, and that was only months back.

I really don't know what that comment is supposed to mean. Well the GBA was practically launched on convereted Snes titles. Nintendo is very good at selling games they developed years back numerous times, and with this system as it more closely resembles a N64 to some extent, I could see that happening again.

Just speculation mind you, but maybe you don't hear everything?

It's exactly what it says there on the screen; me wondering if any of them would be Rare games, why you asking? What's so strange about it?

Now that N and R no longer are butt-buddies I'm just intrigued by the thought wether R would want to be a 3rd-party for the DS.

and with this system as it more closely resembles a N64 to some extent

I haven't seen that confirmed (other than by Deadmeat ). In fact the main CPU(s) of the DS is entirely different from the N64, so it does not seem that likely to me the DS is based on N64 tech (which is very old and very very obsolete by now).

But we didn't hear of any confirmed to be working on games, and that was only months back.

Just because you didn't hear it doesn't mean it isn't happening, you seem to rely on your "industry contacts" a little too much.

Anyway, I doubt 30 games, maybe upwards of 30 down on paper But I don't think they will show 30.

15 to show is a good figure.

but maybe you don't hear everything?

No I don't hear everything, But I'd be willing to wager I've hear more than you on occasion.

I didn't ask If you wread what I wrote. Obviously the only ones that could have been rare titles are the game that use nintendo's licensed characters . You should be able to figure that out.

So what is that portable hardware is that system being released in China based on again?

Paul,

LOL, you mean my industry contacts such as Nintendo themselves? So much for nintendo keepig the developers in the loop on this device  Also I think you shoudl keep comments like that to yourself, thanks.

It was basically a total suprise to everyone outside of nintendo. Meanwhile, the GBA, N64, and Snes were the complete opposite.

Anyway nitnendo has never launched a system with that many games before, so obviously having 30 games means they'd need about 30 different development teams either in house or 3rd party working on games. For me, that seems pretty unlikely for a completly new platform. So I'm guessing they will be launching with some exsisting titles ported/convereted for the new hardware.

you know very well it's not a portable.

Jeez, what's with the attitude from some of you N-fans. I didn't know that system wasn't a portable, as I didn't pay much attention to it since it's only released in china. I don't even remember what it was called.

Also keep in mind that the GBA was exactly like a super nintendo, but there were plenty of games ported to it from the snes.

Oh that's right. Thanks IST. :)

I remembered the Q but thought it was Rel-Q, but they are a software testing company.
