Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo up on PSN

I didn't say the difference wasn't noticable, I said it wasn't much, by which I mean it is only only the difference of ~12% higher resolution compared to the over 100% higher resolution which comes from actually rendering at 1920x1080 compared to 1280x720.

Uh, Resistance has nice multisampling on everything and Gears at least has some edge selective blurring to hide the alaising a bit, while Sigma has lots of untouched jaggies all over the environments at any resolution.

I switched to component to check 1080p and it is clearly using the same spatial resolution as 1080i, which again simply isn't much more than 720p. Also, so that we have something objective to discuss here I took a couple of pictures to illustrate the completely untouched aliasing along with the difference between rendering resolutions:

Gears has the same jaggyness or even worse (the screencaps that you provided are closed-up).
Check this one out and judge it yourself:

Just watched the video... the texture aliasing sticks out, and I think it was there on the Xbox too. Still, during gameplay I would probably have different things...more worrisome things to notice. ;)

It was confirmed through empirical analysis of other screenshots that there was indeed selective edge AA going on. See Mmmkay's post here. It appears to be 2xMSAA on static objects.

Unless the powerlines are dynamic objects, which I would contest, I don't see it. Maybe it has filtering on selected objects not static objects.

Not to go all :runaway: but that is a multiplayer mode screenshot, and I didn't research that part of the game. Usually these days MP is subject to different performance and IQ settings than single player.

Doesn't retract the fact that NG Sigma for PS3 lacks AA completly. It would be good to see AA in the final release, and perhaps it will be so but time will tell.

As for Gears, it has selective AA and the slight edge glow (bloom like) helps to make jaggies less pronounced together with the color contrasts.

all that is, is a reasonably simple shader which AA wires/lines (prolly better than 2x) it doesnt work on static objects

That shot shows some of the edge selective blur which helps hide the aliasing in places like the rings around those big fuel tanks.

The power lines as seen in the shot Homy posted don't have any form of AA on them at all, but it looks like 2xMSAA to me on the sticks of on the right of the shot Mmmkay provided here.

Slightly off topic, but: http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200705/N07.0531.1640.29312.htm?Page=1

GI: Games like Code Cronos and Ninja Gaiden 2 have been sort of waiting in the wings for quite a while now. Do you think we’ll be hearing some announcements about those titles in 2007?

Itagaki: I’d like to show everybody some of the new stuff that we’ve been working on in the near future. The only problem with that is that when the other developers see what we’re doing, they’re going to lose all of their motivation to create any game in the same genre, because there’s no way they can beat it."

Gotta love the man.

So excited for Ninja Gaiden 2. Wonder if the graphics will make a splash though?

Team Ninja hasn't really shown their graphic prowess in next gen yet. It's like they made an engine that was unbelievable for last gen, but they dont know how to improve it for this gen...

Only 6 more days to wait until it is released in Japan!
