I don't care how big it is, I want that sucker to be quiet without overheating. It seems we are so far off from the PS2 Slim days. That thing was beautiful (then again, the original PS2 had a ton of empty space for the rarely used 3.5" hard drive.
Me too, but if it's too big, they risk losing the japanese market. While MS gave up completely, Sony is fighting Nintendo there. There's plenty of ways to make a quiet and small system, if they want to pay for more copper, heatpipes, graphene heat spreader, centrifugal fan with mag-lev bearings, etc...

The Japanese market has already been lost to handhelds. The Wii U isn't going to magically rise from its ashes because the PS4 is too big. That makes little sense.

Note: The PSP is outselling the Wii U in Japan. I think that tells you what you need to know there.

I wonder if that was part of the design decision? Sony tried a WW launch for PS3 but were scuttled by difficulty in fabricating. The conventional design of PS4 not only benefits developers, but also production and sales. The limiting factor to manufacturing rate is probably the 8 GBs.

I wonder if Sony are feeling the gamer's internet vibe and are going to back a significant push for early dominance? They must be wanting another PS1/PS2.
The PS4 could match PS1/PS2 success because Cerny and Sony are doing an excellent job.

There is the competition with Xbox One which -if they ease on the DRM policies- might be an incredible console. If you mix the concepts behind PS4 and XBO you would have one of the most polarizing technical products to ever see the light of day.

Times have changed and to revive the success of PS1/PS2 days, you have to offer not only great games, but other services as well, that fully replace in functionality things that mattered before, but don't matter nowadays.

The thing is, the PS3 hasn't been the most popular console and Sony lost their reign, and that's where Cerny comes in. The PS4 seems to be a very successful, intelligent design.

We will know if Sony can bring the PS brand back to the top. Change is not the issue, pointless retarded changes that make things awkward, drm, unattractive exclusives, etc, is the issue for consoles these days, imho.

We need awesome ads like those we were getting during the PS1 days
Well, they are doing the right thing here in Europe, where football -soccer- is big, promoting the console in these events.

They also basically announced their launch window and the PS4 will be most probably released in Europe this year.

p.s. Congratulations to Bayern Munich for another Champions League title. I wanted the small team, Borussia Dortmund, to win, but it couldn't be.

Given that EA abandoned season pass thingy, it's hard to imagine Sony being kinder to used games more than probably insignificant changes to the stupid 24h periodical check.

There should be more details to come from Sony on buying and reselling and stuff regarding the used games market. For now there are still rumours and not straight facts til Sony say something. This E3 is going to be quite interesting.

More news.... Kickstarter game Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is going to be released on the PS4.

Imagine the heads that would explode if people said, "gee, I sure hope Sony uses that Blu-Ray RFID patent to prevent piracy so the PS4 doesn't have to phone home every 24 hours".

It could be they abandoned it because very few people bought it. Most second hand game cost about 50~75% of the full retail price add on the seasons pass you may as well of brought a new one anyway.

They abandoned online passes. Season passes (all DLC guaranteed) are likely here to stay.

I always remember Sony having PS ads on major football matches. :)

But I also want to see the awesome TV and magazine ads they used to have back in the old days :)

Since when does Sony have a sense of humor ?
