That was funny... when I said it! :p

jk... it was never funny.

Joking aside, I'll buy it regardless what it looks like... but I hope it doesn't look like that. Knowing Sony, I don't know what to expect... they have some really nice designs, but they also have some really questionable designs.

Whatever it looks like in a few years we'll be sayibg how good it looked like most did with the ps3 phat.

Ugly for 2 years then people fame round to its design.

That mock up is truely fugly though. No doubt about it

Do we have full shots of PsEye? Could that ultrasonic vent emitter thing be on there? Emitter on the console itself might not be optimal due to the random AV/HT setups people have.

Fan or not, it has been recreated in this picture, and it looks sleek and beautiful to me.

Looks like a minesweeper they mounted on WWII tanks.
I like it purely from “making a statement” perspective, but not related to home console.

It’s a fan unit underneath the DS4 controller. It can hover above the coffee table while you wipe your sweaty palms.

Ultrasonic sensors would be fun, but it seems excessive at this point. We have DS4, PSEye 2.0, Wonderbooks and the Move attachments. D^8

I have no idea. Hard to predict Sony’s moves sometimes because I think it’s schizophrenic.

What do we have here? Completely unrelated? Probably (the patent was originally filed in June 2008). Worthy of starting a baseless rumor? Without a doubt.

A redesigned PlayStation Move? Sony's taken a stab at it before -- but this time around, it's imagining a controller with ultrasonic location analysis and Wiimote-like IR tracking. A new patent application details a "method for determining location of a controller," which proposes tracking controller depth by measuring the travel time of sound emitted from the device to the television.

It's an old patent from Richard Marks. Sony's motion controller experimentations dates back 2001 (the GDC presentation), and later they used ultrasound telemetry for the Z distance. For the final product they used the "orb size" as a compromise. As far as I'm concerned I still think the orb size is too noisy and requires smoothing, which induces a bit of lag, but what do I know :D

None of those facts matter. All that matters is that it says ultrasonic, and in the Teaser video there is probably something potentially sound or ultrasonic related. I want to see this patent rumor on the front of Joystiq by the time I wake up tomorrow. :p

The measurements are inconsistent, makes it look bad.

Yes, the dominant measurement changes from length to width depending upon which perspective its shown from. The hard angles and inlet with LED strip is more what I imagined from the teaser shots though.

BTW, LOL at the she was 18CU tag.

This morning a newspaper ad in the UK...

So world-wide release in 2013 it is...

I would at least expect a design that does not invite water inside ...

My guess would be that Sony will use centrifugal fan design again, but in a slimmer configuration, maybe even dual counter rotating fans to make it slimmer. Probably a slim 12.5mm bluray drive from the start too, since they dropped the 6x PCAV to a normal 6x CAV which can be made slim. Size could be as small as 10"x10"x2" or 1.5" with a bit of wishful thinking.

I really hope Sony will have at least a basic service covered that would allow me to have one account that can access content in language of my choice (and not limit be to some stupid german store with german only content) and more importantly, I really hope they get some kind of a service sorted that allows my game-saves to be synched online at all times - so I can just take my game to my friends place, log in under my name and continue playing the game!

The only worry for me is that with the policy that games might need to be fully installed, that you may need to actually unlock or rebuy the game as it might be viewed as a 2nd hand game in that moment when it's not. That would be a great shame.

I'm curious, why can a CAV drive be slimmer than a PCAV drive? Is there that big of a difference with the motor/mechanics for spinning the disc at variable speeds?
