Has there been any confirmation from other sources that the aluminum box behind is the January dev kit?
The two black squares on each side could be the two cameras... that would be a very wide pupil distance for stereoscopy.

The black squares on the controller? (I thought that was the share/option buttons) Or am I missing something? Because the controller would be an awful place for cameras.

Did anyone notice the big computer in the picture? It has a front plate that looks like extruded aluminum?
The thing in which the controller is plugged in! The Elephant!

It definitely doesn't look like a standard Supermicro enclosure, I'm assuming it's the January devkit. Nobody seem to have confirmed it yet though.

I saw it, but I'm not remotely interested in the box. Patsu answered my question though so carry on.

I myself am interested in the box, so I'm going to talk about the box now. You've been warned.

If we suppose the 2 black rectangles are the two cameras, it means the distance is over 12 inches. (the norm is 3 inches for stereoscopy)
That is significant because it means the two cameras have been placed for a higher precision. The wider the distance, the more precise the Z resolution. There are also interesting drawbacks, if they want to do 3d video chat. It's an interesting choice.

Hope the final has the start and select (or option and share) buttons a bit further away. Seems like they're in accident range.

IMO they are placed in the right spots.
Also they are flat which means that simply toughing them lightly won't be enough to send the input.

If they're flush like the PS button and Start and Select buttons on the Vita, accidental presses shouldn't be an issue.

What I don't like is the D-pad.
I hope that the final version will uses the classic Sony D-pad which is, for me, better than the ones used by Nintendo & MS.

Lower battery life or larger battery, take your pick. I'd bet on larger battery though, you wouldn't want to have lower battery life for a dedicated controller.

And definitely more expensive to manufacture than the current one. Sony could choose not to pass on the costs to the consumer, but considering their financial state, that may not be a feasible option.

I doubt that's a huge issue - the PS3 controller apparently comes with a 570mAh battery, an 1800mAh replacement battery costs under $5 for a consumer.

Hey guys I suspect there is something else about this controller not clearly visible.

Look closer.

Now remember the patent filed by Sony about a controller that has parts which are detachable

Is it possible that the analog sticks may be held on a detachable plate in similar fashion to what was depicted in the patent images?

They can't move the speaker out of the way.

But they dont have to move the speaker. Only the "speaker vents" on the "plate". The speaker could be positioned under the "plate" and always reside on the controller
