1 mil in 24 hours it's great.
EU is PS stronghold so imagine it will sell even more in EU.

I feel sorry for the WiiU now.
MS and Sony are going to rule Christmas.

It also puts to rest the idea that the 1 million pre-orders was world wide. It was N.America only by the looks of it. I wonder what the global pre-order numbers are?

It also lends weight the the rumour that it was the PS4 pre-order numbers that had MS react so strongly with it's policy 360's.

They have to be able to produce demanding amount of consoles. To sell 5 mil you need to produce it :) Let's hope they will manage to cover demand!
Given those first day US sales numbers, I've got a feeling we'll see major shortages here in Europe.

They'll probably make sure to sell as many consoles as they possibly can in the US before shipping more units to the EU (which is a market they obviously assume PS4 will dominate anyway) ...

I won't complain, though - considering that they won't even launch PS4 before next year in Japan.

They are making ~ 1-1.2 mil per month since september, more than enough to bring to market 5 million consoles until end of march.

What I wonder is how much consoles will they leave for Japanese launch in late February? PS2 almost reached 1 mil consoles sold in first day in Japan.

I've read that some users have consoles produced in August and even July. So they started earlier than September.

So exactly how do you calculate the loss per box then if you count non recurring costs?

Can't a company calculate the total expenditure on a project till launch date? Then factor in the number of pre orders and forecasted sales at launch> use the figures for loss per box. I am sure they have hired enough economists to calculate just that. They have to.

Sony sure, but that's not what I meant with you.

We all know where these bullshit numbers generally come from ... analysts. Now I think third party BOM cost analysis is almost always complete and utter bullshit to begin with, but when you start adding non recurring costs it becomes worse.

Am I the only one who's interested in buying the WiiU now because of the new Mario game which looks fantastic?
Plus I can't find the PS4 at my local stores T_T

You aren't the only one.

Though I bought a PS4, I wish I could have both, just because of Super Mario 3D World :)

For now I will enjoy Resogun and KZ Shadowfall though, excellent games :)

But its not $300 good.

The PS4 looks good and hopefully can be made great as Sony refine their software over time. Overall, a good start to nextgen.

Graph for perspective, first month USA sales. Canada usually has ~10% USA sales I believe.

Im not familiar with US TV market. Is this 'insignia' tv this guy is using any good?

It's a quite popular retail brick-and-mortar model. One of the brands that non-demanding shoppers would pickup. It's likely a very prototypical tv.
