New Perfect Dark Zero screenshots (Oct 4)

I wonder why MS is pushing this so hard as their flagship title. Maybe the gameplay rocks on some whole new unheard of level. I mean they have PGR3 and then they have this. And supposedly, they have eyes as well.

Maybe they are convinced the last 2% development time will take it to a whole new level.

Or maybe they've leaked older shots...

That would be great, but I doubt it. Well, we'll find out soon enough. The press conference starts in about 20 minutes.

Well since I can't see the pics now I will post the pics from IGN.

Ok so I see these maybe scanned pics, so I will not post anything.

This must be a case of lowering expecations, otherwise....ouch.

This looks like an XBOX game with really good lighting, hopefully these are old screens....

Yeah, I just watched it.

Don't watch it if you want faith restored. It's not gameplay anyway (in-engine cutscene).

The game runs in 720p, so the imagery is sharp and clean, and the action ran at about 25 FPS. We were assured that the frame rate would settle into a smooth solid 30 FPS in the final build. Although the slower frame rate could have affected the turn radius speed, I couldn't tell. But circling around, either left or right, took a lot longer than I wanted it to. The controls also felt a little sluggish, neither as smooth nor as fast as I had hoped for. Again, I'm not sure if this was because I played a preview build, the frame rate was a little slow, or that's just the game plays. We'll have to wait and see how the final builds turns out.

Perfect Dark Zero looks good and is certainly much improved over the sporadic leaks we've seen and those early, rather bleak, screenshots. But even the build we played didn't convince us that Perfect Dark is entirely ready. It looks like Rare will work until the last possible day to put all the finishing touches on it, and in the meantime, we can say it was fun while it lasted. I'm not ready to say it's the killer-app we were hoping it would be.

I got this off of GAF. There very dramatic over there arn't they?. But this was posted. Its a "on hands" account on how PDZ plays. Appearently the game has (minor?) framerate issues and isn't up to 30fps (optimal) yet. Also, the low framerate led to this...

So the low framerate seems to really be affecting the feel of the game. I'm not sure if 30fps (average) would fix that but RARE still has more time to optimise this game. Its still doesn't look good on their part though.

After watching the short video, this is all I have to say:

If the gameplay is not 007/PD quality, this is gonna bomb.

Kameo has restored some faith in me in their gamplay abilities (nice balance in character use), but Conkers showed to me that they are not perfect, especially with online MP. Hit or Miss.

The graphics appear to be a "Miss" -- clean and effective, but definately not better than CoD2, FEAR, Quake 4, Prey, HL2, FarCry, etc... All those games had better art direction and a good combo of Art+Tech.

007 ranks as one of my favs of all time (muddy graphics AND framerate issues and all). So hopefully the gameplay is so great we can overlook these things... yet honestly that is not easy.

Hopefully Rare's first Xbox 360 from the ground up will fair better. Obviously they have some skill still... lets hope they don't take 5 years to make their next 2 games :devilish:

From IGN's own PGR3 update...

Holy cow, what a difference a month can make! While we weren't overly impressed with the first time we laid our eyes on PGR 3 back in August, what we saw today was a totally different story.

There's still time. They're pushing it, but there's still time...

The shots released are overly compressed and possibly upscaled. But even if you took that away, I'm pretty sure PDZ would still disappoint. Rare got stretched too thin on this one.

Before judgement is in, I would like to see some gameplay.
QFT.

As "bad" as some games look and as "good" as others do it all comes down to how they play and what they offer to gamers: Graphics (Visuals + Animation), Sound, Story, Gameplay Mechanics, Gameplay Balance, general 'immersion' , Online, etc...

Come on, the video isn't anywhere near as bad as some of you are making it out to be. Not to mention it's tiny and heavily compressed. It looks great considering...
