New PDZ Movies!

I'M NOT TROLLING!! But I wish the bricks had more a real grimey dirty look. They look wet and slimly like. But what I do like about the walls is that they look hard. Alot more solid than this generation. And the havok physics when they die look to non-realistic. I'm waiting on naturalmotion's death animations. People don't fold like that in real life when they get shot.
Actually, when people get shot and die they crumple over. If you ever shoot a log or a can with water it gives you a good sense of the effect. It pentrates and transfers energy (which is destructive to soft tissue and brittle bone) but it wont toss your around. Granted, the animations looked stiff and delayed and seemed to be missing a "thows of death" element (something natural motion may be able to do well!) but most FUN games, where the ragdoll is exaggerated, are quite unreal. Of course, I crank my CS:S server up high because I like to see the ragdoll fly! ;)

In the 5th video the fioliage, from what I can see, looks nice. Guns and lighting seem to be strong in this title, characters are cartoonish and it is hard to see their detail... this is one of those titles where you can tell there is a lot of detail, but the question is the quality. Like the dirt ground--it looks like it COULD have some depth to it, but on the other hand it could be a flat texture.

Kind of need HD video feeds to really say anything. Definate improvement since the lame MTV footage... how good it really is, well, we will have to wait and see. But the graphics at least look passable and "high end PC" so that alone--if the gameplay is as great as Rare has made it sound--then the graphics will do a good enough job to carry the gameplay forward.

007 was more about the gameplay and the balance and the outrageous fast paced battles. If they have built on that and kept the "Fun Factor" in place I am sure it will do fine.

The gameplay looked a little bit weak for a standard FPS. It probably wont hold up to other modern FPS like FEAR.

I guess PDZ will be all about the online play.

This and Oblivion will be the games i'm gettin. The textures on the game are amazing. I love how in the first video...theres this glistening type of light reflection off the wall, it looked very cool. I can't wait to play in 30+ deathmatches...thats going to be fricken fun.

Hold up in what terms? They're completely different approaches, FEAR is supposed to be tough and scary (and bloody hell it is frightening, not sure u've played the demo...), PDZ seems more light-hearted and cartoony.

i think some of the elements in pd0 is meant to be over the top and not realistic like HL2 and the like.

what we can see is the gfx is now finally looking next gen, let's hope they button up the gameplay which im sure Rare can definitely do.

I just watched the second video and the death animation is sorta corny. The way they fly back DOES feel timecrisis'is. They also seem a little rigid...but its good to see that instead of the type of rag doll physics that makes it look like your floating on the ground.

It is not trying to be a PC FPS. 007 and PDZ were a story driven action FPS. They had cool features and gadgets.

Really, comparing it to FEAR, HL2, D3, etc... is unfair. It fits a different FPS niche than those titles. Some like it better, some do not. But weak would not be the word I would use for the Rare FPS series. They offered a lot of elements in '97 that had not seen much of in a FPS before and the MP really rocked too.

The roll and wall cover alone look pretty cool and from reading around it seems like they have some pretty nice weapon balance features. A lot of weapons, alt fires, melees, dual wielding and tossing grenades, Cloaking, X-ray, etc... And it is on the Action/Anime side. A lot different from FEAR or HL2.

Looks awesome. I can't wait. :)

Also all it takes is an adjustment in gravity to reduce the ragdoll effect. Now the question is wether they want to reduce it or do they want the over the top style. Comic book-esque seems to be what they have been going for since the beginning.

Where were these recorded? TGS? E3? Looks like a trade show...

It looks much better but IMO it still need a lot really a lot of work in the personages, environments look but it should have more work too, in the horrible part I put the animation/explosions(physics in general?)/AI (WTF is that? :devilish: ).

But it is a "bad" video, and too short and it may be/probably is from a old build (it looks equal, in qualitity terms, like those 2 nice pic that apeard some days after E3, with the reflexion of Sun and the spiders), so I still have hope, althought each time less  .

Are you talking about the same FEAR that I've been playing the demo of the last two days? I don't know if the game experince gets much better on a better hardware (I'm running 3.0C P4 and X800 Pro), but the hype for FEAR is way overblown judging by the demo.

Anyways, back on topic: These video I think is mking me consider a Rare one two punch launch purchase for me. Rare is doing well on the X360.

Wow, it looks extremely good, the details on the walls was awesome, puts GR: AW to shame I think...we'll have to see better quality shots though. The character model for Joanna looks really good too.

It's a shame the ruined everything by such bad death animations, it's looks retarded having people suddenly spring backwards when they die. I thought they wree gonna do the deaths goldeneye style? That was fun :p

Someone on the TXB thread said these were from several weeks back and said Rare knew there was a problem with the animations and were working on them. Take it for what its worth (a random post on a forum) but could be true...

Nope sorry Acert can't make me change my mind of this one. The animation needs work, but it seems like Rare has stated so, so that's good. Will probably be a 8-9 rated game when released.
