New Heavenly Sword Info (screens included)

What your seeing is the 'model' effect, the E3-2005 was polished. Whereas this footage is just straight from the game, it hasn't had a full polish yet. So lighting and shadows aren't just right yet. Its the same as taking a photo of a super-model whose just woke up and grabbing a coffee versus a photo-shoot with proper lighting...

As for differences?? Well the new army screenshot is meant to be dof'ed like that its an opening shot. whereas the E3-2005 shots you've shown are closer, so you can see the peeps better. A similar camera would produce a similar result with the new stuff...

There really isn't any major downgrade... its fundementally the same renderer just improved and made PS3 friendly. And better shaders, lots of better shaders now.

another reason why i love this forum so much! i must have vastly underestimated heavenly sword before hearing this.

FYI... the new GamePro issue 224 has an exclusive feature on HS (including the cover with a rendering of Nariko)... with "PS3's first MUST-HAVE game and the coolest weapon EVER!"... several screens although GPs picture quality is crap.

the feature is cool and they are really excited about it. :D

New screenshots, or some old ones? Any mentions of release date or some new tidbits?

several new screens some from the "Heros" rope bridge others from places I have not seen. they mention Cell, AI, Graphics and physics (very briefly).

they set her up as PS3's hero and the fact that by holding L1 the sword transforms from "speed style" short swords to "range style" attack chain blades (they say similar to God of War) there is also a "power style" which morphs to a broad sword. this can be done at anytime even in the middle of combo attacks.

They say the controls are intuitive and Nariko auto-blocks attacks and executes counter attacks. You can also dodge blows by flicking sixaxis. you can also move the camera with sixaxis. there are also "Hero sequences" where you must react to a series of prompts on screen to survive.

they discuss the "delicious" visuals, the lighting and the large number of enemies on screen.

Mulitplayer has yet to be confirmed nor denied as in the game.

they say "with any luck, 2007 will be the Year of the Sword".

Let's hope not...

Anyway, I hope we get to see more of the game combat in action soon... honestly, while info is nice, I'm really tired of reading about how you can do this and that in battle, I just want to see it, end of story. As they say, "a picture's worth a thousand words."

I just saw in March issue of EGM that there will be preview of Heavenly Sword in its April issue. That issue is out, can anyone post some new info [if any]????

Also, UK branch of Playstation official site states that Heavenly Sword and Lair will be out in May in Europe. Is this official, or just some mistake?
Also, HS May date is stated here.

According to Deanoc, the game has only recently reached alpha stage. That means at least 5-6 months until release*, so in no way can it be released in May...

* The game we're working on as contractors is going alpha next week, and it has a release date in Q4 2007.

I'm actually expecting we'll see playable demos of Lair and Heavenly sword in May. I think that's where the confusion comes from. Though Lair can't be that far off from completion.

That page was written in early March... so minus this month just gone = 4/5 months. Not that it's a concrete release date or anything but it's nice to have an idea of how long people will have to wait.

...At least.

Last time I've heard, beta testing takes at least 3 months...

Interesting. Thanks for the info - always good to hear from insiders.

I'm guessing there isn't much room for maneuver on the alpha and beta testing right? Does it vary much depending on the dev or type of game? Actually, don't bother answering that - it's OT.

Some games are certainly rushed and may require a patch just to play through, others are undergoing heavy testing through all the development to make sure that it's fun to play and it's accessible. Console games have been better in this, but they've began to slip with the ability to patch them through Live/PSN.
Also, there's been a cool presentation about Halo and focus testing on halo.bungie.org for example. Or there's public beta testing.

As far as I know, Alpha means feature complete, and Beta means everything is in but it still has lots of bugs and balancing/finetuning issues.

Are you saying that Heavenly Sword is anorexic and does lines of cocaine ?

J/K :p.

Ehi, what about these? :D
