New GhostRecon 3 screenshots(no 56K)

The only thing more amazing then these screenshots (which I personaly doubt are in realtime) is the capacity for people in this board to see defects in every and each screen shown here. I bet I could post here 10 real photographs saying its from a game, and there would be a handful of individuals criticizing the "realism" of the photos.

Nothing personal, but if you can't see the obvious flaws in those concept pictures, then it's not our fault.

That picture looking through the fence could very well be a picture. Show it to any non-B3D person saying it's a picture you took, and I doubt that anyone will say it's a fake computer generated image. Now if you're going out of the way to look for specific computer generated defects, you'll find it anywhere. Maybe even on real photographs, since still-pictures are always subject to optical tricks and ilusions.

Whatever you say, that reflection of the turrett is SO wrong, i don't think anyone would fail to have a "Hmm there's something wrong with the picture" kind of feeling.
 
My eye instantly focussed on the distorted reflection. Anyone's would - it's human nature to find what's wrong with something that should otherwise be right.

Yep. Went as far as i could without finishing it. Couldn't force myself to finish it, it was so boring.

All i'm saying is that you can safely say HL2 has "amazing" water shaders, but hardly amazing water technology, as other games have much better, more interactive water than HL2.

The fact that it's a FPS not the point. HL2 water techonolgy is not "amazing" in my opinion. The shaders are probably the prettiest around, but there's very little technology involved.

Ok but you said you've seen better interactive water. I'm asking you which FPS have better interactive water?

On-topic: screens look nice but there's definitely something off with them.
 
If you're talking strictly FPS, then Unreal Championship had some deformable water that reacted to players and projectiles. UT2k3/4 seem to have gotten rid of that in some of the same maps though, but it is supported in the engine.

you're missing the point i think...

London Boy was just saying that the Water technology in half life 2 (ie, everything regarding the water, from visual effects to physics) is good but not amazing due to it being let down on the physics (or rather the interactive physics) side. were half life 2 to combine it's water visuals with a equally impressive interactive side then it would have "amazing water technology"

He is not saying there are games with better "looking" water (ie from a purely visual standpoint), he is saying there are games which have a better overall "water technology" - ie they may not be as pretty as half life 2 but are a more complete overall tech.
