Even though the NV30 failed, Nvidia really lost nothing

? Yeah, only money.

SINGAPORE -- MAY 9, 2003 -- NVIDIA Corporation today reported financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2004.

For the first quarter of fiscal 2004, revenue was US$405.0 million, compared to US$582.9 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2003. Net income for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 was US$19.7 million, or US$0.12 per diluted share, compared to net income of US$83.2 million, or US$0.47 per diluted share, for the first quarter of fiscal 2003.

FYI: Revenue lost more than 30%, income went down by 75%!!! Tough economy, I know but c'mon.... far worse than last year.

- if what you are saying is correct in 1% market share loss...

That's the sign. I hope Huang can see this...

I agree somewhat regarding marketshare shifting slowly. But in this case, is it shifting? Or, are people waiting?

Yes and maybe.

And, how is the NV35 going to factor in?

We went through on this hundred times... 1. The marketing factor 2. If the flagship card is fine than usually its derivates would be fine too (in their market segment)... of course, it's vica versa.

worse economy is a big reason if you keep in mind that the 3d chipset market started to decline a year after the general pc market.
And there is another point you have to keep in mind. The first quater 2003 was pretty strong because of strong x-box sales. The launch was only a few months before.
You can't really compare the 1st quater 2002 to the 1st quater 2003 and relate the difference because of competition from ATI.
ATI was the minor problem here.
Finally Nvidia gained 1% marketshare in the 1st quater to - just like ATI.

I'm just pointing out the percentage...

saf1, it is shifting and so we wait. But NVIDIA are not some stupid company that will allow their marketshare to get gobbled up by making mistakes for 2 or more generations in a row. NV35 is where NVIDIA is @ now. NV35 to me seems like a 100% improvement on the sorry state of affairs the NV30 was.

So NVIDIA I think will maintain their marketshare in the long run.
